.....

Viaplay may be one of the best streaming services you can get in Norway when it comes to content v price. Also you can watch all live sport up to 48hours after the event. That's great for me who works 15-20 Sundays a year.

Oh we are spoiled over here, 7 days is the normal time frame.

Oh, here it depends on what service and what sport. I can go back and watch every stage of the 2019 Tour de France on another service. But Viaplay has the same for all their sport, so I guess that's why 48hrs ended up being the deal.

Darn it, the discount code expired.

Next season wil run for 8 months, making a monthly or a yearly subscription almost the same money. I have no clue Viaplay will offer live timing via the F1 site?

Viaplay has halved on the stock market and the CEO has been replaced. Citing cost of living as a reason why people quit Viaplay.

(dutch) https://www.nu.nl/te...jes-letten.html

And again they don't see their poor qualiy (720p, low bitrate) as a reason why people stop their subscriptions. The commentary team isn't great and it is all very clinical. Buying everything from other broadcasters (PL soccer, PDC darts, etc)  isn't helping them sell more.

They're lucky the average viewer can't use F1TV (yet), it's an infinitely better deal.

This is the main issue for me. Ziggo used to be very biased, but at least they brought some atmosphere... I've tried Viaplay a few times, but it's just very boring and there are enough alternatives that are more knowledgeable as well...

Odd thing is, they say they want to be objective with F1, unlike Ziggo's more tavern like setup. But with darts, the host talks with everyone like they went to school together. That is just the other way around.

Also, they're not objective with F1.

The main difference between ViaPlay and Ziggo is, apart from the resolution quality of their broadcast, that ViaPlay is more professional and less like a bunch of school buddies hanging out in a basement talking about F1. That being said; the commentary during the sessions was unrivaled at Ziggo. Olav Mol is a monument to any Dutch F1 viewer and I dare to say that no one will ever match his knowledge about, love for and enthousiasm about the sport. The current commentary team at ViaPlay isn't bad. But it isn't Olav. Team up Olav with Nelson Valkenburg (current ViaPlay lead commentator) and Allard Kalff as the main pit reporter and I think you will have the strongest possible commentary team that the Dutch viewers can get.

Olav 'boom pats hatsa' is also long past his expiration date though.

Completely agree. Nelson is very good and Olav is a legend.

I hear only about 5 seconds of them before I switch to the F1TV international feed. Sometimes I forget to switch to English in F2 and then am greeted with Kalff... I switch on a dime when I hear it. ;) I'm not married with Olav though, too error prone.

Kalff was also the one stating that you see banners everywhere online, so you shouldn't complain they insert those in the broadcasts.

@Beri. I've watched a VP session once at my partens, but there were some glaring mistakes (mixing up PSI and Bar on tire pressures and then stating they need to be as high as possbile). I've had enough when I heard that.

The only reason I gave Viaplay a chance was that they ditched Mol and Plooij. After the first year they announced a price hike and I immediately switched to F1TV. Didn't regret it for a second.

Just make it f1tv everywhere, alongside FTA.  Should scrap all OTA paywall deals especially the one's that demand exclusivity.

That will be the way to go if it were an ideal world. But sadly we are having broadcasters like Ziggo and ViaPlay overpaying for the broadcast rights and they are bringing in more money to the FOM than an equal amount of subscribers, compared to their viewers, would do buying F1TV.

And I am aware that Mol makes mistakes. But I'd rather have an occasional slip up and the "johee johoo", over the current ViaPlay commentary, any day of the week.

Did you make the calculations? If viaplay pays 30 million a year (that is the amount i found googling), It only takes about 500.000 extra subscriptions in the netherlands.

Ziggo will try to buy the TV rights back anyway when the Viaplay contract runs out.

Well, The Brits never made much of an issue about "unless I am very much mistaken" Murray Walker so who are we to complain about his Dutch equivalent....

F1 TV is pretty awesome, but I don't know how it is outside of English.

Liberty Global owns all of Ziggo.

I actually like allard kalff, i do have a dislike for plooij. Unbelievable that that man is allowed anywhere near a circuit with a microphone.

They also outspend Ziggo on Premier League and Bundesliga, RTL on Darts, etc. And you have the running production cost of their Nigerian stream as well. Actually, illegal streams are usually better quality than what Viaplay offers. If anyone complains about it, it is always the customer who is wrong... according to Viaplay that is.

As a pit reporter yes, but not a full race commentating.

Yeah sure. The point i was trying to make was that maybe it is more profitable in netherlands for f1 not to sell the viewing rights in the future but instead exploit the rights themselves via F1TV.

This, exactly. They overpriced it and i'm quite content with the f1tv pro subscription!

This seems like the best thread to ask this question: I'll be moving to the Netherlands later in the year (yay!), and want to follow F1, the feeder series, IndyCar and Formula E. What's my best bet? I'm guessing Viaplay to cover all the bases?

Formula E and IndyCar are being broadcast by Ziggo. Formula One by ViaPlay. But the Dutch commentary, of ViaPlay, is also on F1TV. And that's cheaper.

Thanks! And that's a really good question - I'm still not sure   I'll be working in Leiden, but I'm still trying to find somewhere to live. We'll see what happens!

Leiden is a very nice city. You're lucky
If I may hand you a tip; depending on the place in Leiden where you will be working, I would recommend to check how long you would be willing to travel by public transport. Because Leiden itself and the immediate surroundings are quite expensive both for rent and to buy an house. But it has fantastic connections by train and a good bus service all over the city. An hour travel by train would bring you in cheaper areas of the Netherlands and many train connections are twice an hour if not four times an hour towards Leiden.
Public transportation in general is very good in the Netherlands. I've always taken the train to work for over 15 years. And I never regretted it. That being said; my work is right next to the station, so that made my choice a bit easier.

Welcome in advance to our country Muppetmad! Where will you be staying? Formula E is broadcasted on Ziggo Sport Total and Eurosport. Indy on Ziggo Sport Total. F1 and feeder series on Viaplay and F1TV. Your best bet would be to get the Ziggo Sport Totaal Go app for EUR 9,99 per month and the F1TV Pro subscription for EUR 64 per year. So for approximately EUR 15 a month you’ll have all F1, F2, F3, FE and Indy races live.

Let me know if I can be of any help

Thanks Ivanhoe - much appreciated!  And thanks Beri - I'll be sure to cast a wide net. It'll be a pleasure to be in a country with a reliable, well-connected public transport system - something the UK is very much lacking these days...

Honesty does force me to tell you that sometimes public transportation can be disrupted quite heavily. I need to tell you this because all Dutchies will hunt me down with pitchforks and torches since yesterday one of the biggest disruptions of the train net in years happened. One which forced tens of thousands of people to either find an alternative way home or sleep at the station they were halted at.
But other than that, I am dead serious that you will be pleasantly surprised if you will be able to see it as a serious way of transportation.

Same like Ivanhoe said; if I can be of any help, just send me a DM.
