Are any members of this illustrious forum planning to be at the Festival of Speed this year (assuming no eleventh hour political decisions scupper it)? It would be great to catch up in person again with a few more enthusiasts than has been possible of late ...

I would love to if I could enter the UK without a lovely 10-day stay...

I wish I could, but I don´t have the Time to enter the UK 10 days before the event and stay another 14 days in quarantine when I go back to the continent.. So I give the FoS (first time since 1995) and the Revival (first time since 2005) this year a miss.

I'm planning to go Thurs/Fri. Fingers crossed it will proceed this time. Not sure how many exhibitors will be present - it might be quite domestic. Wonder if Lord March has good contacts in Reykjavik.

Does the Duke of Richmond and Gordon give spelling lessons?
Plainly he does !!

I’m hoping to make it to MM in October.
Same here - all booked (or better changed repeatedly since 2020).

I'm at MM too , so fingers crossed . Especially necessary in view of my MM experience -
2017- severe back problems mean having to drive the 300miles back home from my B and B without getting closer than 10miles of Goodwood
2018 - Beast from the East meant , surreally , that the skiers were out on the South Downs . A wonderful weekend but a tad chilly
2019 - Wonderful , all well
2020- Cancelled
2021 - May date postponed , fingers crossed for October.
But hey ho , at least this year I have been to three more race meetings than I'd managed this time last year .

2018 was quite an experience, wasn’t it? My wife and I actually found ourselves in a potentially life threatening situation created by blizzard, darkness, burst tire and no mobile phone coverage .....Will give details if we have a pint in October.I'm at MM too , so fingers crossed . Hope to hear this story, too, in October.
And I can share the story from that early Revival, when the truckies had been on strike, which meant no petrol at stations and my rental car came with just a pint or so in the tank - at Stansted...

Witty & Vallance etc. is working hard to delay the 21st of June easing of the lockdown with "at least" two weeks, more likely a month by the sounds of it....
https://www.thetimes...night-bfvnthssj
Another cabinet source said: “We always said it was June 21 at the earliest. We may need another few weeks to let the effects of vaccination take hold.Doing a partial reopening would create confusion. People have planned on the basis of a full reopening. It’s important that the messaging is consistent.”

A friend now pulled the plug - he would have been in the 100 years Amilcar group, was really looking forward to that (especially with the cancellation of Montlhery and their Amilcar celebration).
But in the current situation it is simply not doable.

Gold luck with that one . I run a theme park and believe me you can write as many rules as you like but the public don’t give a dam.

Many have speculated what would have happened if "Deltaland" had been put on the RED LIST in March, before its variant started to be spread....
PS. If you sit down, you can't get infected by Covid-19! "Delta" or not!! https://twitter.com/...012658194632709

I suppose the obvious question is will it be cancelled. I surely hope not if the British GP gets an exemption.
The exemption of sports from covid rules in UK seems to be a case of " who you know". I was astounded yesterday to hear the Queens tennis tournament organiser say on TV that " they had got a change in the law" ( his words) to allow players from red list countries to avoid any hotel quarantine so they could play at Queens.
Similarly the Lions rugby team jumped the vaccine queue to get jabs pre playing in South Africa ( a red list country) and were negotiating an exemption form hotel quarantine on their return so they will be available for their clubs opening games in the UK.
It all seems very hit and miss which is sad for alt the sports / events organisers without special pleading processes.

Many here in the UK don't understand what's going on either!
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-57464097
Hospitality and live events will have their suffering increased, and prolonged. Difficult to know/guess what will happen after 19th. of July, too!

Judging by what have taken place over the last 15 months I wouldn't be too confident about Revival and MM in September/October.....

Strange that they haven't updated confirmed ticketholders more frequently than website/social media? (Sign of the times I guess....)

I’m not holding tickets for FoS, so maybe that’s why I didn’t receive an email notification, but given the volume of messages I receive from GRRC I would have expected to be updated.

Looks a good line-up despite restrictions and quarantine. Still some famous names there and some not seen for a while - Kim Mather, for example.
But I have to weigh up what's best book-writing wise for myself and I believe that what I'm doing instead research wise this weekend will be of more benefit - at least this year. I'll be at the Revival and MM as it stands instead.

Just back from a Thursday and Friday; I was expecting FoS Lite, but somehow they managed to get some really interesting stuff together. The commentary was MILES better than 2019 too.
Only one gripe: it's a cash-free site, so guess how you pay for a programme? Yep you guessed it. And because it's a cash-less site there are no ATMs available! Interesting huh? I ended up going into Chichester and using an ATM there before going in today. But in case it helps, be warned!

Watching Mario take the Lotus 79 up the hill was a real thrill for me, even on TV, as I saw him win the 1978 GP of Belgium in person. Does anyone know if the car he drove today was the chassis that won that race?
I believe it is. The car is listed as being entered by Zak Brown. He owns chassis 79/2, which won with Mario in Belgium and Ronnie in Austria.

Yes you show it at a pre-ticket check and then walk the half mile from there to the gate. Simples

I decided not to go this year as I was unsure of how big it would be or what restrictions would apply; but I looked in on Wednesday and it seems to be almost as it was pre-covid. I took a few pictures, in the above gallery.

Yes, I watched a couple of hours of the live stream and I didn’t see a single mask. That was refreshing and encouraging.

Whoever is doing the sound mixing on the YT feed is doing an awful job. Commentary is inaudible at times due to too much engine noise. Like now with the F1s.
I'm sure it would be fine if you were on site, listening on the radio or PA.

Mask wearing indoors was strictly enforced. Quite right too in my opinion.
I thoroughly enjoyed my two days at the Festival, and it was great to be back at Goodwood again.

It was possible to avoid those who appear to have lived in a cave for the last 18 months, but it was getting to be a challenge by end of play yesterday. I hope it won't jeopardize future events.

Some pics from Thurs/Fri:
^ Jochen in the LC1
^ if only
^ test event
^ it takes a Penske to put the German flag colours on a Porsche
^ Penske parade
^ Karun Chandhok is a repeat visitor
^ For once I was not taken with the Gerry Judah sculpture and I wondered how much the pandemic had to do with that - this was a virtual reality thing where the cars were put on the sculpture via app, I couldn't be bothered
^ Tyrrell jam, son ahead of father
^ the Prodrive BRX was popular with snappers
^ little bonus I spotted near the turnoff to the building museum - an original pre-Guildford Rules junction sign, these have not been installed since 1975

Judging by the events I do attend which are for the so called real enthusiast , there'd be more exhibitors and participants than spectators . I have never been to the FoS , but I have attended Goodwood Revival and Members' Meeting - the pantomime element of the former can grate a little but Goodwood puts on show which is unequalled . I am delighted they live stream it too.
Like any big sporting event it attracts the marginally interested - but that goes with the territory. Having attended Donington, Cadwell and Knockhill CSCC and HSCC Cadwell in 2021 I can report that the spectator banks were largely unpeopled . Fewer 'real enthusiasts ' around than we might imagine..
