Judging by the events I do attend which are for the so called real enthusiast , there'd be more exhibitors and participants than spectators . I have never been to the FoS , but I have attended Goodwood Revival and Members' Meeting - the pantomime element of the former can grate a little but Goodwood puts on show which  is unequalled . I am delighted they live stream it too.

Like any big sporting event it attracts the marginally interested - but that goes with the territory. Having attended  Donington, Cadwell and Knockhill  CSCC and HSCC Cadwell in 2021 I can report that the spectator  banks were largely unpeopled . Fewer 'real enthusiasts ' around than we might imagine..

Exactly - without the sideshows there would be no events such as the FoS. I can take in the bits that I enjoy and leave the rest. I attended the first FoS back in 1993 and now realise that in some ways this was more enjoyable than recents editions with all of the bells and whistles !

And one of the best sideshows at Goodwood is the Future Tech pavilion; for a start it's a refuge from the Sussex sun, but it's like being in a Tomorrow's World studio, with flying cars, Mars vehicles, dancing robotic dogs and submersible simulations.  In these days of virtual reality and heightened expectations it is one of the few wow things around.  Couple of years ago there was a robot making cocktails.

Priced out the real enthusiasts for years and ongoing.

Surely you can’t believe that. Among the hundreds of thousands who attend any of the three events in any year, none is a “real enthusiast” and they all have disposable income to burn? I must be the one exception.....

I went on Thursday and Friday. As a GRRC member, Friday was £52 with a free Thursday ticket. I think that’s good value by any standards.

I agree, bearing in mind what an event like this would cost to stage. The organisers have to at least cover their costs, and compare this cost to what you'd have to pay to attend almost any other event these days, a top league football match for example, or almost any other big sporting event.

I went along today and it didn't rain so one out of the three forecasts I checked got it right!  For a 'reduced capacity' crowd it seemed pretty crowded although queues for food and loos were noticeably short.  After a while it didn't seem so odd to be rubbing shoulders with a mass of folk.  I guess we will get used to it again.

All in all, a  very good day.  It's not every day you get the chance to say hello to Derek Bell, John Watson and Dave Richards amongst others!

Some pics from Thurs/Fri:

^ if only

Yes, indeed and it brought a tear to this old cynical eye.  I saw the  team in the paddock and thanked them for the final, and so fitting,  touch of the Hill helmet.  There was a lady there in Embassy Racing gear who was bursting out all over, so it was no hardship!

I went on Thursday and Friday. As a GRRC member, Friday was £52 with a free Thursday ticket. I think that’s good value by any standards.

I went along with a mate, who had got two tickets from another mate whose secretary is a GRRC member and seems to get free tickets or something?   I didn't enquire too deeply.  But even paying full price would be decent value.

Now let's wait and see whether we all catch the dreaded lurgy.

I think, "I don't think either was able to attend" might be a bit more reasonable. These are still challenging times, especially for those who are resident overseas and/or of an advanced age. I'm amazed that so many folks were actually able to make it.

That's fair, we don't know why they did not make it. I was also very impressed, I just wish Andretti and Penske come back again at a time when overseas fans are also able to attend!

I wonder if the quarantine protocol might have been waived for them? I can’t see Penske sitting in one place for 14 days or whatever it is. As John Watson is purported to have said, “Roger’s never had a day off before this!”

Yes I assume it is waived for those who arrive to work at these pilot events, the Euro final would not have happened there otherwise.

Yes, of course. I hadn’t thought of that.

It would be nice if they could persuade A J Foyt to join them as well.

Has Sir Lewis ever attended?   I have always got the feeling he does not like meeting fans face to face, hence his huge Twitter following?

Yes, it did run.  I don't have a photo, but here is a link to all the pictures I did take  https://photos.app.g...fbaoHUP1SPfhkq6

Geoffd, thanks for the great pics - I couldn't go this year so your photos are a nice substitute.

I see Roger Penske's name on the side of a Pontiac ( Catalina I think?). I didn't realise he had raced big sedans in the US as well as the FUBAR etc.

Also the contrast of the Lotus 79 and the modern F1 cars shows  keeping a formula too long and having to consequently having to keep tightening the technical rules leads to such ugliness.

I'm hoping to go to Goodwood in 2022. I have been trying to find out the costs involved and one site I found on google listed the price of one ticket for Sunday at 838.75 pounds   Is this correct? Works out to $1419.80 Canadian!

I suggest you try the official site goodwood.com where you'll be able to buy tickets at face value (once they're available) which will be approximately 10% of the price that you managed to find on Google.
