I am delighted to see on a Australian Face Book page that Doctor Michael Henderson has been awarded the AO decoration for his pioneering and ongoing research into  motor racing safety in the necessary use of safety belts. I believe he also did a key paper on fire risk which I saw in Autosport decades ago.

Sincere congratulations to someone  for his work which was voluntary and usually beyond the call of duty.

we have covered his work previously on TNF . Perhaps someone could put up a link as a reminder, or as news for some folk, perhaps.

I remember his involvement while he was out here.

 

Then I ran into him in the French GP Magny Cours campground in 2007.  I saw the Australian flag on his camper, not knowing whose it was, and later introduced myself.  He was waiting for his FIA pass to arrive.  We had a few conversations over the weekend, there was a few 'accidents and incidents' over the weekend, I think it is fair to say Michael was not a fan of the French way of running a motor race meeting.  One of the things he talked about was the accident data recording, back then it would probably have been in its infancy.  At the time he was on an FIA safety panel/commission, the details are hazy.

 

Well done Michael, a bit overdue I think but better late than never.

 

At that time he still had a Chevron I think?
