I mean not as passenger, but behind the wheel.
Mine was ~208 km/hour in a pretty big Mercedes at a countryside highway in Thailand. Drove like that for about a minute. I had a feeling that the car was about to take off. Some planes actually do at a slower speed.

Near 120 MPH on I-95 in rural northern Maine on a November day. Over twenty minutes and I hadn't seen a car going either way, so I just floored it. Going north from the coast towards Baxter State Park, the Appalachian Mountains add a constant bit of climb so the car was working a lot harder than the speed reflected. Backing off was funny because 80 felt like it was parked.....

I drove 230km/h in a Volvo V70 Turbo. I was surprised it could go so fast, I think it has about 200bhp. I have also driven a Mercedes 220E, Toyota Camry and Audi A6 at speeds between 200- 220km/h
and been a passenger in a BMW M3 at the speed of 250km/h.

199.4mph Porsche 935 Turbo, Paul Ricard circuit. 1997, a local speed festival. They had Steffan johanssan's F1 Ferrari capable of 220-225 but I was not allowed to drive it. (obviously!!)

Sadly, I never had the opportunity to drive a really fast car myself ( I know nobody who has one, and I myself could not afford one yet ), so the fastest I have ever driven was around 230 km/h in my father's Passat while I was driving on the Autobahn to visit my uncle (that's about as fast as the car goes with a lot of buildup :) ). Fastest in my own cars was 200 km/h in my Opel Astra and, what I am particularly proud of, WAY beyond the speedometer scale when I drove my first car, a Ford Fiesta Diesel 54hp, downhill on the Autobahn (the car has an official max speed of 155 km/h and the speedometer goes until 180 km/h - the needle was at about 6 o'clock, which would have been about 200 if there had been a number there :) ) Hehe, I even overtook a BMW driver who stared at me with blank disbelief - but on the following climb, my little Diesel box slowed down to 80 km/h again, and I was overtaken by several trucks. From hero to zero :)

It is pretty usual around here to drive your (standard) car as fast as it will go on the Autobahn, especially late at night, well, and where it is allowed :) (you're not everywhere free to drive fast, in fact there's a speed limit of 120-130 in most places). I guess it would be different with a really fast car, but right now I often find myself driving on an empty Autobahn, thinking "why does this crappy piece of sh.. not go faster !"

145 (indicated) in a hopped-up '69 Super Bee on I-94 in the middle of the night... only car on the road... somewhere outside of Detroit.

It was amazing... a car that was a real handfull at 75 handled like a dream at 145! But then I remembered that my tires were rated as VR130, and suddenly scared the hell out of myself. Slowed back down to 75 until I stopped shaking

That was a *sweet* automobile!

Not as good (or is that bad?) as most of you folks, but I found the other side of 200km/h twice. Just barely, in both cases.

Honda CB750SC the first time, about 205 and still gaining but I hit a bump and nearly **** myself. End of experiment.

Mazda RX7 GXL the second time, barely over 200 and couldn't squeeze more out of it.

Since then marriage, children, responsibility. You know the deal...

I have three:

Known: 200 Km/h from San Francisco to San Jose (101 ?) on a rented car.

Unknown: Some minutes later, when I reached the car´s speed limit and the Ford Thunderbird suddenly went off (for a while I thougt that the car was damaged).

Endurance: 1400 Km on 10 hours in a Yamaha Virago 750 (including pit stops:drunk: ); ahh, and through guerrilla influenced territory sometimes (I´m from Colombia)

Hmmmm...

1. In my RX-7 190 km/hr with several thousand rpm to go. Car was very stable and I knew I could go faster. But decided to slow down when I saw some deer on the side of the roads. Hit one at 80 km/hr and that was violent enough thank you.

2. In an old Ford Tempo (first car) I went 160 km/hr down a mountain (only way to get the pig to go that fast). The car felt very light and was required a very light touch.

3. On an Enduro bike, off road on logging roads about 90 mph. Not sure because I was concentrating on not making a mistake!

4. In an aircraft, doing a missed approach/low pass 140 kts at about 10 ft.

Speed is relative. I've taken my RX-7 down country roads (1.5 lane roads) at 170 km/hr, and the sensation of speed is far greater than on a highway. Any idiot can go fast on a highway, and I don't really speed on them anymore.

220+ kmh, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution here again last year. Most fun of all!.

270 kph in a race-prepared Ferrari 355 at Mosport (recently revamped old F1 track in Ontario, Canada).

I'd love to drive an Audi R8 on that track - last year at the ALMS event they were turning 1:09 laps at Mosport, with only a very quick confidence lift at the entry to corner 8 at the end of the Andretti straight. Total balls to the wall. I think you have to grow special muscles on your eyeballs to drive one of those things.

205 km/h (127 MPH) in my 1989 Peugeot 405 DL on the Okanagan Connector Highway 97c, downhill. Tires were HR, no problem. Very stable.

Every time I've driven in Germany I 've had slow cars - the fastest was probably 180 km/h in a Renault 5 GTL 5 speed in 1984, wound the speedo past 160 and up to 15 km/h. I briefly drove a friend's BMW 520iA there too, but kept it under 180 (max was 210 or so).

I can't wait to get my C 240 M-B and take her up to 235 km/h (146 MPH).

140mph = 225kph, bouncing off the rev limiter, for about 25 miles in a 16V Golf.

Also had a 1.6 Nissan Pulsar on the limiter in top at 180kph, which I think was a better achievement :)

240kpmh in my Audi A4 Quattro 2.8l on the Dubai Abu Dhabi highway. This is a 100km brand new 4 lane highway completely flat with hardly any cars around. The car still had a little left but I got a little worried (2 kids and all!!!)

Boy this car is amazing, I am really eyeing the new model with the 3.0 liter 220bhp engine:up:

Same speed, about 5700 rpm in 5th gear.
Also drove 151.5 mph on an oval in a CART (driving 101 experience, ...speeds on the straight were fun...in the turns...scary :drunk:
Only 4 full laps...:(

205 kph in a Renault Safrane 2,2l (please dad, don't read that).

I think I could up to 215 but no time to check. It was on A13, between Versailles and Paris (France).

PS : now, my parents have a Safrane 2,5l (5 cylinders, 170 hp). I'll be back soon.

Luckily here in SoCal we have the deserts and walky talkys so we occasionaly rustle up some road rockets and go out for the day.
One time we had a Porsche 930,a BMW 6.35csi,a de Tomaso Pantera(the one with the 351ci Cleveland) and a L71 Corvette and about twenty miles of utterly unoccupied desert road to play with.Everyone took turns in everyone elses cars while two cars and guys hung out at either end of the road and kept an eye out for John Law or other unwary interlopers.
As I am utterly ignorant of kph, heres the rundown in MPH
930 - 167 mph
Pantera - 150+ funky speedo, never could tell how fast cuz it was bouncing all over
635csi - 155 mph we think it had a fuel cutout chip,it acted funny anywhere over 150,by far the most comfortable and quietest.
Corvette-140 mph,and all over the road, quickest outta the hole though, but not for long with the 930 alongside.

The scariest moment of the day was when the Pantera decided it didn't have enough front shocks for the downforce the front end generated and it buried the tyres into the wheel wells.
"hey do you smell smoke?"
"uh,yeah"
"smells like rubber"
"uh yeah"
"hey wait, this things a mid engine and we're doin' a buck forty!"
"Oh ****! Must be the front tyres!"
Rapid stop and two new tyres needed very shortly, not to mention a touch up of blistered paint on the fenders....

By far though the most speed I've "felt" was in a 18 foot boat on nitrous at about 100 mph and about six inches off the water, now that was fun!

180 km/h in an EA Falcon taxi with about 700 000 ks on the clock and retread tires. Would have gone faster but the speed governer kicked in and cut the accelerator untill we got back down to 120 km/h. The other taxi had a three speed box and the speedo didn't read right so he got away.

I was just browsing through our old picture albums and saw a bad looking picture taken in dubai, from inside our mercedes we had back then in the 80's(I was just a little kid so I wasn't driving). I wondered what was so special about the picture and noticed it had 160kph on the dash-board, and apparently it had gone much faster than that on those loooong highways(not the new ones you're talking about of course).

The fastest I've ever gone when I've been driving???? Probably my kart. I guess the speeds are over 120-130 in a reed-valve???

I'm getting my drivers license within the next few months or so, so that might change sooner or later.

My pop has a CBR600 F2 (from 1992). He said he only went up a bit past 200kph near the sepang track(long wide highways, no other cars etc.). At the Shah Alam Batu Tiga race track he reached about 180 on the straights, and he's gonna try out the sepang f1 cicuit within a few weeks.

Going for a ride on your bike at the tracks here is rather cheap I think. ~$20 at sepang for 3 hours on a saturday morning and about ~10at Shah Alam for an hour also on saturdays. I think I'll get to try the bike at a track soon enough, then I can post on this thread again=).

My fastest on the road is a mere 125mph (200kph) in a Lotus Elan many years ago (with a 70mph speed limit , so I am bad as the rest of you!!)

In a car, about 180Km/h on a busy Sydney road at 11am in a friends HSV Senator - that was fun !

On a bike, about 210Km/h. Took the corner at 130 and didn't see the police car sitting on the inside curb. Dropped into a gully immediately after the corner and hit about 170 at the bottom accelerated up the hill to about 210. Hit the crest and backed off to cruise for a little while at about 140 until I decided it was time to slow down because some moron in a car decided he wanted to go faster on a windy Sydney back road at night - worked out shortly afterwards that the moron was a cop, and my licence was toast...
(Glenhaven road, around 10pm, for those who know Sydney)

On a bicycle (shortly after the above), 97km/h on the Roseville bridge in Sydney - easily the most exciting of the three at speed.

I'm currently working on an SP1...

210kph on a Yamaha XJ 900 bike for about 20 minutes. Was scarry when I slowed down. Suddenly noticed I was still up to 130 kph, and had only 150 meter to come to a stop. As it turned out, I took the emergency lane, rather than to go for a hairy brake manouvre.

180kpH with a Peugeot. Was scarrier, violent vibrations, since I was on winter tyres, and got everything out of the car. Decided to slow down to 160 kph, which was just right. 160 kpH is my prefered travelling speed on Germany's Autobahn.

TD3 Yamaha GP machine 350cc with drum brakes theoretically 255kmh (track though)

road car:

best: when 18 my mother's Mark 2 Jaguar auto 2.4 litre. Drov e it to Adelaide and back. Driving in the "Coorong" next to a salt lake seperated from the ocean by over 200km of sand bar, 106 mph on the dial (probably 99.8mph), a GM Holden V8 GTS appeared in the mirror and slowly overtook and took five minutes to be out of sight. Uncertain if 253cubic inch V8 or 308 cubic inch V8. 20 minutes later passed it with bonnet up and smoke pouring everywhere ... conclusion was 253 V8

185kmh in 96 Camry V6: it started to float quite a bit at that speed

185 kmh extended time, in Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, with passengers asleep in the back, quite a curvy road

Surprisingly just 6 months ago 220 on speedo standard (new) MX5 with roof down

2000 911 Carrera: 235, up and back

A pathetic 90mph/144kmh sometime in the
eighties in a 1975 Cutlass Supreme 4-door.
The thing had a 350 cubic inch V8,four barrel
carburator and weighed nearly 4000 pounds.
I onced raced a Ford Escort Gt on L'Acadie
Boulevard here in Montreal and got blown away.
