LIke Webber and DC he is quite sharp for picking up on things and explaining to the viewer.

Brundle seems to be doing a reduced number of races this season?

I was never a fan of his yet still was genuinely impressed by his insight on Sky last week-end. He's actually good at this.

Nico is really sharp and analytical but compared to Brundle he is the opposite of loquacious. However I'd like to see him in a trio with Croft and Brundle, if Sky can afford all that.

I think it's good to rotate him in, but not too much (that's more "too much of a good thing" talking). If only because the contrast just reminds us what he brings to it when he does show up.

Somehow I've gotten it in my mind that he has a deal to do X-number of races a season. And when the calendar is expanded that means he'll miss more.

Nico likes to stir the pot, but he can actually follow the race, which is sadly more than Croft/Brundle or Croft/Di Resta (*shudders*) can often do these days. I'd definitely have him on board again.

Great to hear from you, ray b

My vote: get rid of Croft, keep the rest.

I like Nico’s commentary.

I’m not sure who would be best as Croft’s replacement. I’d suggest that it be someone less intent on conducting an on-air bromance with the rest of the crew (he’s by no means the only one guilty of it, but he sticks out), and someone less intent on conveying that every second moment is a historic one, which is just as irritating. The combination makes him well-nigh unlistenable.

Although Mr Rosberg qualifies in both of these respects, I’m not sure he’s suited for that seat. He’s good as a 21st-century Hunt.

Not yet. Will listen for this… :drunk:

Honestly he is the best addition ever. They need to keep him !

Only thing he needs to tone down a little bit his Lewis mancrush ,just a bit.

And that comes from Lewis fan  :p

No seriously, loved the insider view and even sharing driving tricks and stuff we are not always aware of!

Dunno. Like the fact that he isn’t afraid to criticize Hamilton, and does so often enough.

He also has a unique insight into Lewis’s strategies, style, moods, etc., no small thing in a commentator.

I just loved how he just constantly shut down Croft and his BS, showing him up for being the terrible commentator he is.

Alex Jacques, Martin Brundle and Nico Rosberg would be a fantastic commentary trio on paper. You never know with chemistry, though I don't think Croft/Brundle have particularly good chemistry either.

Nico has great insight, but I think he would be at his best in a tertiary role where he doesn't have to carry the commentary as much.

Jacques would be an interesting alternate to or combo-commentator with Nico.

Of course, his mere appointment to that position would probably unleash a torrent of bile. Not sure broadcasters are looking for that nowadays.

The appointment of Jacques or Rosberg? Can't imagine people being upset with Jacques, likely they've either never heard of him or are already fans considering he seems to be universally lauded for his F2/F3 commentary (and I'm a huge fan myself).

You can put Sporty Spice behind the mic or even Boris Becker, if David Croft and Jack Plooij are both jettisoned out of any broadcasting job.

Over the decades I got the impression that kind of stuff is strictly forbidden in any kind of commentating job?

Martin Brundle did very well  with the a little above average career he had, to be a top commentator for decades and decades, still going.  Often these things may not correlate, top driver, top commentator, etc.

Yeah, not taking anything away from Nico but radio tuned to Jolyon Palmer & Jack Nicholls during Sky has improved things for me massively, they are fantastic.

Not sure about Jacques to be honest. As a native English speaker, his diction and pronunciation leave a lot to be desired a lot of the time, tends to shout unnecessarily too on occasion. I think he'd grate in large doses. Rosberg though, yes please, as often as you like.

I believe he does 16 a season. So obviously misses more every time the number of races increases.

To be honest I still think Brundle does and good job and woildmt swap him. The main problem is the other guy in the commentary box.

I usually manage to tune out from Croft.  If only F1 would stop using his commentary on their online highlights.  An overly shouty, grating mess.

Are we going to complain about shouting when David Croft is the current standard we're comparing against?

I can agree that Jacques doesn't have the perfect voice, but I think he does a fantastic job both generating excitement as well as eloquently and rapidly reacting to what is occurring during the race. He'll never be Murray, but I have gotten the impression he's a cut above any other main commentator we've had as a wordsmith.

Nico was seriously fantastic in the commentary box. Jacques, Rosberg and Webber would be the perfect combo for me.

But seriously I’m sure Rosberg doesn’t want to travel to all races anyway. Split it between him and Jenson. I’ve liked Brundle for a long time but I think having a younger and more recent driver counts for a lot.

It's interesting what progress he has made. At the beginning he was pretty much only stating the obvious and baiting as ****. He really took the criticism at heart it seems and worked on it. Not everyone is capable of this.

Definitely a great bet as co-commentary, as a pundit for post-race analysis I think Karun and Ant are still better.

Winning Le Mans and a world championship as well as multiple F1 podiums is way above average for a racing driver’s career, not a little

I thought he sounded like he had bit of a Canadian Québécois accent and mentioned it to my wife. Must be a Monaco accent... as he and Jacques kind of grew up there.

I thought he did a good job, but needs a microphone with more bite, as he has a soft voice that doesn’t cut that well through the background sound.

I think he and Brundle would be good together.

Nico is really, really good as the co-commentator.

It’s always good to see (hear*) a new face in the commentary box that doesn’t speak to the audience like they are an idiot, or patronise. Just told it as it was and could offer a reasonably up to date insight. Refreshing

Croft is just so awful it's unbearable, he is such an idiot and a poor commentator how he can be hired to commentate for F1 is disrespectful to the sport and it's viewers.
