Really sad news.

Very sad news indeed - his passion for open wheel racing was never questioned by those who knew him. This is a massive loss for our sport on this side of the pond.
Hope his first stop is with Dan Gurney!

Beautiful sentiment.
RIP Robin. Imagine the stories you can tell now.

I really didn't want to like your post, but so true. I expected more than a couple of weeks...

Damn, I was hoping that he was in a better shape than he looked at Indy.

Mailbag back on hiatus.
One of the saddest things about Indycar Media coverage is the fact that the hiatus won't close anymore because of a kickstart.
Indy & Indycar have a few men who are and were in their days the elite in their coverage and knowledge.
The Elite has lost a member.
Rest in peace Robin.

Though not really surprised, sad to hear the news this AM from another friend. Had just gotten an email from him a couple weeks ago after his mail column at racer.com had been delayed for a couple weeks. Now we'll never get the book he should have written years ago...
A real loss for the racing community.

Very sad, really enjoyed reading his work. The Nigel Roebuck of IndyCars.

I had a feeling after seeing the Mailbag on hold this morning... Great that Robin had a chance to go out on a real high note in Indy a couple weeks ago. To pretty much close one's life with the best day of his life, what more can one ask for? We will miss him terribly. Goodspeed.
Posted 25 August 2021 - 15:34
Yeah, amazingly, he got a victory lap in at Indy. I hope that helped sooth him a bit in the last two weeks since then.

The outcome was inevitable and expected, but the timing much sooner.
RIP Robin.

RIP Robin, briefly met him at Road America back in 2006, even though he was busy he took time to have a quick chat.

What a terrible shame. Gone too soon...

Woke up to the news of Charlie Watts, now this.
Remember Robin used to do the grid walk? I loved that. Always enjoyed reading his articles too.
One memory that sticks with me: I was walking through the paddock at Mid Ohio, Robin came rushing by, obviously had somewhere to be in a hurry. I just said "Hi Robin". He stopped in his tracks, came over and chatted a while. Good guy, Great person.

Can't say I'd read much of his work, not being an Indycar fan, but I'm aware of what a legend he was.

Not unexpected given recent dispatches but sad nonetheless. So much accumulated knowledge and passion there. RIP.

I am wondering.... He was very close with his sister Diane. I wonder whether or not she will put something together - possibly on a request he made before his death. Frankly it would be a huge loss not to get some sort of official publication of CART/ChampCar/IRL/Indycar from the time he started racing to the end. I'm crossing my fingers for sure.
That said I was watching some Youtube vids of him this AM and this one nailed it - funny as well.

Very sad, really enjoyed reading his work. The Nigel Roebuck of IndyCars.
Or, alternately, Nigel Roebuck is the Robin Miller of F1.
I had some e-mails with him discussing some vintage drivers. Always interesting and fun.
He had countless breakfast and lunch get-togethers at Indy restaurants with Gary Bettenhausen, Bill Vukovich and several other former racers (IIRC, Larry Rice, Steve Chassey, several others I don't recall), where they'd sit and chat. Oh, to have been able to drop by that table.

Sad day. He's been in bad shape for a while. I didn't know him, but I know someone who did. Never had anything but great things to say about RM. Great person. As nice as they come. No BS. Always called it like he saw it, straight to the point.

Of everyone I met at RA for many years - I never met him there. Wow!
It was after the 2006 race behind the VIP/Media Center Tower (between phone calls). This was also the race where Katherine Legge had that big crash. Also where "Dinger" picked up his sixth and final CCWS win.

There are many stories and recollections that Robin would regale his audiences with.
My personal favorite was how he got Dario to pay for a luxurious 5 course dinner.

I woke up to the news over here in Aus.
Won't lie - I cried, and a fair bit.
Thank you for allowing a young kid in Australian with no connections to motorsport to follow and become passionate about indycar racing.
Vale Robin.
