Alfa Romeo said in its own statement that Raikkonen is “displaying no symptoms and is in good spirits”.

“He has immediately entered isolation in his hotel,” the team added

Well, Kimi in quarantine in a hotel room with no symptoms, nothing to do, supposedly can order stuff delivered to his room... we just know how he'll spend the time, don't we? :D

As has been said in this thread already, its mind blowing to me that neither Fernando or Kimi have won a championship post-2007. Its almost as crazy as saying that neither Max or Charles will ever win a championship.

Come to think of it yeah. Kimi was phenomenal from his rookie year to about 07-08. After he won the WDC he seem to lose motivation hence his sabbatical. When he came back he was still a very good driver, excellent race craft. Especially in the slow Alfa you can see how good his race craft is, always hard but very fair. He just lost a bit of his raw pace and killer mentality.

Alonso is just unlucky IMO. Always wrong timing.

When it rains it pours!

Rest up Kimster. He might get to like sitting back in a hotel with a drink watching the race, early taste of retirement

Bah this gets worse and worse. This weekend is the best oportunity for good points because there will be carnage. All in all Kubica can get 4 or 6 points in one race and Kimi only 2 in 20.

Kubica and Alfa are too slow to score that many points even if there would be a carnage.

No, either you know or you don't. You wouldn't understand if I told you, that's not how it works.

It depends. It's easy to half the field be whiped tomorrow. Kubica can beat at least Mazepin I reckon. Alfa can do well in this small circuits. Yesterday Gio was in the top 10 and Kimi was in pair with RIC, Norris, Tsunoda.

I am not sure your idea of entertaining yourself manually is shared by the Kimster.

That's what you thought of, really? Okay... :drunk: must be a generation issue. I gather some of you are too young to remember how vintage Kimi loved to spend his spare time back in the day.

Too young, that is not me!.  Or maybe You really know how vintage Kimi loved to spend his spare time?  Unfortunately it is impossible to drive a motorbike or snowscooter where he is right now.

I understand that some people even here are Kimi-haters.   Think I have now again found one.

You couldn't be more wrong, somewhat unsurprisingly. I don't even understand how one can call himself a Kimi fan but apparently only appreciate the politically correct side of him... but whatever, each to his own.

Two words for you:

Esteban Ocon.

Of course, Alfa are not Alpine, but we’re not talking about a podium for Pan Robert, but 2 or 3 points.

Certainly doable if there’s carnage.

I'm surprised by this answer. I had always understood that one of things that made Kimi so popular was, precisely, his "bwoah, I don't give a sh!t" attitude towards his off track obligations and his penchant for wild parties. How come saying it makes you a hater now? Wow, this is a 180 degrees turn if ever there was one.

Kubica doing ok so far having such little prep.
But surely this physical circuit will be hard for him later in the race?
Wasnt there talk of him a few years back showing speed but struggling with his arm in long stints in testing?
Cant imagine his neck being anywhere near as strong as the other drivers.

Hope he shows signs of old pace. He didnt seem to enjoy his last stint at williams, seemed to feel a bit shafted by the team favouring Russell.

Kimi is not a "vintage Kimi" any longer.  Has not been that for several years as we all know.  Nowadays a married man with kids and now with the corona-virus.

Some "persons who make sarcastic or cheeky remarks to demonstrate their cleverness" still say that he is using gorilla suits, wild partying, sleeping on the sidewalk with an inflatable dolphin, drinking too much, the icecream saga,  and so on.

Grow up!

Fernando had signed for McLaren in 2005 and they were doing all they could to convince Kimi to be his team-mate - had he signed on I wonder how it would have affected Lewis Hamilton's career...

McLaren would have held on to him and placed him at another team for sure. Lewis was too good a prospect to just be tossed away at that point.

Yeah. He was notorious party animal. Once he drank 2 weeks straight between races and then came second in that race after the bender.

Kimi's personality has become cult status for his treatment of the media but I was a little surprised at the Dutch GP driver interviews when many were asked for their Kimi memories. The majority of the grid seemed to have no relationship with him at all. Both Alonso & Hamilton seemed puzzled as why they were being asked about Kimi. A few drivers wished him a happy retirement but most had nothing substantial to add. I think it's fair to say the only person who cared about Kimi's retirement was Tom Clarkson (asking the questions).

It seems that Kimi's aloof attitude wasn't just directed at the media - he is genuinely not a friendly person. Maybe it's just the Finnish culture? Does everyone in Finland behave like sulky teenagers right through their adult lives?

My suspicion is that while many fans will miss him, I don't think he'll be missed much in the paddock.

You seem to be reflecting your own feelings about Kimi to drivers.

It was the non-politically correct Kimi who won the World Championship, who seemed the hottest new driver in a decade and who became a favourite among the fans, don't forget. I don't think his wild image has done him any bad, quite the opposite. In fact, it was he himself who maintained the James Hunt connection, using his helmet in Monaco.

Ironically, I remember a discussion just three years ago in this forum, where I criticized that he appeared drunk at a FIA event, while many of his fans praised him for being a free spirit.  :drunk:

Frankly, I think that a boring, politically correct, robotized Kimi Räikkonen would lose a great part of his interest. I think you get it completely wrong if you think that remembering the original Kimi makes you a hater. Again, I think it's just the opposite.

Have never got that impression myself. He got along famously with Vettel, his current team-mate has left him a glowing tribute, people who work closely with Kimi seem to like him a lot and say he’s very different in terms of personality behind the scenes. In the driver interviews, nobody ever says anything remotely profound do they? If I had a penny for every time a journo tried to stir up some excitement in one of those and was left banging their head against a brick wall….Kimi himself would probably be even less inclined to give himself any kind of tribute had he been there.

Most Finns I know don’t practice meaningless small talk and repeat meaningless phrases and comments and silly gossip all the time.

That does NOT mean that they are not friendly!

This, according to those who knows him the best he is as friendly as it gets. Not talking much doesn't mean he isn't friendly. On the paddock he mostly talks with Vettel, Giovinazzi, Mick and Bottas.

Good friends with many team personals from various teams like Gino Rosato from Ferrari, Jost Capito from Williams etc

Many drivers said many words about him etc. Only one who didn't have much to say was Ricciardo but there is no wonder as he and Kimi are completely opposites.

He is friends with Gio and Vettel. All the others are not close to him. Hamilton has an adolescent admiration for him and respect, Ricciardo looks totaly puzzled by him, Alonso is bitter as always (never could overcome the fact Kimi won for Ferrari and he didn't) and the youngsters are too young to go more than "he's a legend, good ridance".

All in all Kimi looks like a cool guy when he is at ease with peope, wich  he can only be when working closely with them. Tha's why he's well with Vettel, Gio, Grosjean, and a few other.  It's a personality trait: reserved untill confident. Hamilton on the other hand "loves" everyone from the get go.

You won't get at ease until you're ready to accept the whole Kimi, not just the parts that suit your own taste. But that may come with growing up, I reckon.

Besides, very creative to lump the kids and corona in one sentence. :D

So he's offered the same job that irritated him (well, most people) no end when done by Schumacher in 2008? :drunk:

Frankly I can't see him in such a position at all, but he might well surprise me again.

Yup, I doubt Kimi is interested at least he has said he isn't interested to be working in the paddock, but he is interested to be working behind the scenes and try to help developing things.

Been thinking about his debut for Sauber. I don't think the younguns here realise how much of a kerfuffle the issue raised in F1. Considering his immediate success, I do have to wonder if his success influenced younger drivers being able to get into F1 so young - esp one certain Max. Do we have Kimi to indirectly thank for Max getting into F1 when he did? We all know what Red Bull are like with young drivers, its not hard to see that another timeline Max has ended up in Slovenian touring cars.

Which would be kind of ironic, since one of the persons that didn't want Kimi at Sauber was the one that brought Max to F1.

How I wished he had finally won at Monza in 2018, that too with Ferrari. What a race by the champ!

Always seemed to have the luck go against him, the fact he overturned a 17 point deficit with only 20 available to take the championship was an amazing task by him and his team. Of course, circumstances did go his way, but he pushed his himself and the team all the way despite all being lost. That drive in Fuji the round before showed he wasn't going down without a fight.

Sadly, only walks away with 21 wins and 1 world championship. Many would love that achievement, but if things went his way a bit more he'd have had considerably more wins and another championship or two.

What a class act, I will absolutely miss this guy and gutted I never got to see a race live with him racing.
