They did. I thought it was a good move. If you care more for the WDC than WCC (which RBR, who are in it for the publicity more than the prize money, surely do) then it made sense.

I expected to absolutely hate the FL point but actually quite like it. Adds a bit of interest to races at the point where everything would otherwise be over.

Adds no interest for me. It's not like they even show tha lap being driven. If it is to remain then open it up to all drivers, not just those in the top 10.

Is it sponsored?  Unfortunately they will probably keep it.  But it adds nothing to a race.  Whatever driver has a gap big enough behind will pit with a couple of laps to go to take fastest lap.  There was even the mockery of Red Bull taking two stabs at it with Perez at Silverstone, ending up outside of the actual points.  The best advert yet for giving up on it.

It cost Max a race win in Silverstone last year, so there's that. Fully agree with getting rid by the way, but mainly for the reason that it often goes to the first driver who has had a race without any pressure from behind and it doesn't require much skill to take fastest lap in a fast car with fresh tyres and on low fuel.

Well, if we overanalyze it a bit, it's bound to undermine the regular points scheme quite frequently.  In the majority of cases a driver other than the leader will have the chance to go for late stop and fastest lap without losing a place. Thereby he reduces the well-earned (points-) advantage of the leader without having to do anything special. I mean, Bottas just proved that it's quite hard to NOT get fastest lap with new boots. :D

They should give a point to whoever comes last. Could spice things up at the back.

I've seen enough Monza qualifying to know how horrible that would be.

Bottas getting shafted without lube.

Needs to try a FL.

He did, then immediately got dropped post race. Now THAT's shafting without lube.

I thought Max pitted as a safety precaution, unless we're talking about the other Silverstone race. I didn't watch much last year admittedly.

 you'd see the shenanigans and swear you were watching final Q1 lap preparations.

The video by Scott Mansell was informative. I hadn't realised that the banking is dished, 4.5° at the bottom going up to 19° at the top. That explains the bizarre line. TV doesn't make a good job of showing the reality.

Oh, agreed. I was doing a more general ‘what’s the impact of extreme bad luck been on this WDC so far?’ sort of thing.

Then you can also add 10-15 points for the unplanned engine change.

No, that was due to Pirelli being Pirelli.
