Supercars, formerly V8 Supercars, are going to their Gen 3 package in 2022.

https://www.supercar...y-gen3-details/

Like NASCAR, Supercars are changing the bodies to be more like production models, and to better fit the cars that will be used.

Gen 1 and Gen 2 of the spaceframe cars were designed around the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. They had a standard chassis with a standard wheelbase. Which is why the Ford Mustang looks so odd in the current, Gen 2, configuration - taller and shorter than the production car, it looks like a caricature.

The Gen 3 chassis allows for different wheelbases and is lower, allowing the coupe bodies to fit better.

At the moment there will be two models - the Mustang and the Camaro. When the rules were being devised there were a small number of Camaros being sold in Australia, converted to RHD by HSV. But the Camaro is no longer sold in Australia. Soon it will be just the Corvette and Silverado.

The engines are described as "crate" engines, though they aren't really.

The Camaros will use a 5.7L LS variant, the Mustangs a 5.4L Coyote variant.

Triple8 Racing have been testing the new engine

It looks like the Gen 3 cars won't be introduced until around August.

Also, it appears that any new cars that come to the series will need to have a V8. This after the Gen 2 rules allowed for turbo 4s and 6s, which is why the V8 was dropped from the series name.

Just another extension of the why bother stupidcar irrelevant bullshit.

There already is a category using those body styles and another that could if they wish too.

And as for win on Sunday sell on Monday even the stupidest buyer knows they have little in comparison to  a roadcar.

And you will never buy a Camaro here from a manufacturer.

The only thing I will say is now they are using engines from this century,,, though 5.7?? How is that came too? The small bore longer stroke 90s version or a 4" bore 3.48 stroke? eg 350 SBC.

The Ford OHC lump will always be at a disadvantage with the top heavy engine and its bulk. And it multitude of timing chains. The current 6.0 and 6.2  GM engines simply make more power than the Ford lump. And Ford have noone to blame except them selves!!

It doesn't matter what they run since the engines will be equalised.

And the 6.2L doesn't appear to make much more power then the 5.0L Coyote.

Wow they are dropping the 5 litre engines? Will they still sound like the old 5 litre engines? There was a .... crispness to their sounds. I am a Holden man but over here in Canada, I have tried both the Camaro and the stang and the Coyote is by far and away the more engaging engine. It doesn't mind a few revs I tell ya what.

HSV were importing Camaros and converting them to RHD when this rule set was being developed.

Of course they are no longer doing that. Perhaps GM could use one of their other vehicles that are or will be sold here - the Corvette C8 and the Silverado. The Corvette doesn't qualify as it is a mid-engine 2 seater, so it should be the Silverado....

There are discussions with other brands. Whether that is at the team level or series level I do not know.
