I’m hardly what I call a tennis fan but she’s been so exciting to watch through Wimbledon and the US Open. So much of what makes sport great is about personality and narrative, and here we see plenty of that.

Pretty cool to have a motorsport link.

It's the irresistible waves of motor racing enthusiasm emanating from my house and infecting the occupants of her school half a mile away. Or maybe she looked at the list of old girls from her school and decided to emulate Sterzo's daughter and take up karting.

I was saving this treat for the tennis thread in the paddock club.

She was also an aspiring motocross rider at one point. Definitely a woman of many talents!

I hope she sticks to tennis, we have plenty of quality racers, hardly any tennis players! Heres hoping she actually stays healthy unlike every other UK female tennis talent. No reason she can't do a Sir Chris Hoy and enter Le Man in her 30's.

Someone mentioned somewhere she’s a big F1 fan, follows McLaren I believe. May have been a bit young when Lewis was there but no doubt she is going to meet him at a certain event at the end of the year…

I got up to watch her Semi-Final, can’t wait for tonight!

When she was around 8 years old she said. Well international karting (WSK) only starts at the age of 11 (10 if you become 11 a bit later during the season). At that age it must have been locally that she races. In some countries they only allow karting competition from the age of 9 and never lower as 7, in the UK it's 7 I believe).

You can race karts from 8 at the indoor Karting track near me (Manchester, UK)

As I said you can do competition karting from the age of 7 in the UK but not in all cuntries. And internationally in the WSK from 11 (FIA even 14, 13 if your 14th birthday is coming up).

in the USA they have kid kart competitions with 5 years olds AFAIK

Greg Rusdaki, as in, started ( or in her case, born) in Canada, and then moved and played for the UK?

(I’m by no means trying to stir stuff up here, I don’t know nothing about Emma my self, hell, I didn’t even know she was born in Canada… and all I can remember from rusendaki was that he was good and played for Canada until he switched for the UK, in the mid 90’s, and that it generated a bit of controversy in the Canadian tennis press when it happened.

She’s amazing. And yeah, she’s lived in Britain all her life so I don’t think there’s much question there.

I love it when a sportsman or sportswoman seems to come from absolutely nowhere, 0-100 in the blink of an eye. I really hope she carries this success forward but she’s so insanely talented I can’t see really any other outcome.
