Do they still take a spare car but in pieces? they may as well have a third car in FP1 the old T car system. Make FP1 only for reserve drivers 1.5 hrs and the regulars start FP2. Less practice does make better racing.

less work in the long run for the mechanics of Latifi and M Sch they can just roll out the T car.

Less practice means just too much chaos.
Why not just completely randomize setups and give them 1 lap to fix it

You say that. NASCAR went the whole of 2020 post-covid outbreak without practice or qualifying. They only added that to "high profile" or new events for 2021, so only 8 out of 36 races had practice and/or qualifying. Basically making it as few people as possible travelling, and keeping the events at 1 day. It wasn't that much chaos.

Was just reading that Sauber have already fulfilled this by running Zhou in FP1 at Bahrain….

Sauber is the only team that doesn't have to run a rookie on a Friday because one of their race drivers is a rookie but.... they did promise Théo Pourchaire a couple of sessions and a test program.

I am not sure the technical complexity is remotely close to F1 and the operating windows of cars and tyres are close.

I think such a change can be made, but it should be taken into account when designing a car. Might wanna go on the path of a less complicated diva that's rather fast out of the box vs knowing you have 3 sessions x 2 drivers to nail it.

It's changing the game a bit to do it after designing the car - hence why I said chaos
