As many others said, I'll probably never support an other driver as much as I did with Kimi.
Charles would be my next favourite, I think he has it all to take the fight to Verstappen in equal cars. Those two are destined for a great WDC battle, let's see if it happens.
Second pick would be Ricciardo.

Nice that no one has tried to change this thread into a Kimi (or any other driver) bashing thread. That sort of negativity, or attacking the fans of a driver, really adds nothing to this website.

Has Alonso really maintained his speed? Ocon isn´t actually the fastest guy in the sport, it is difficult judge

I would entertain, and possibly concede Alonso has lost some speed. A 10th, or two 10ths in outright speed, but negligible in race pace. I would also concede the same is happening to Hamilton right now, but in Raikkonen's case the drop in speed was obvious and never abated. Raikkonen should have been put out to pastures new when he left Ferrari for the 2nd time.

I don’t think Alonso has really declined yet. Just a feeling. I think he’d still be winning in a car capable, really do. He was never at any point in his career THE guy to beat on raw speed. He’s still exactly the same driver I think. With Raikkonen, Schumacher etc you could see a quite pronounced decline, and a shift from one kind of driver to another at a certain point in their careers. Alonso is more of a Mansell. Strong as an ox and still able to do the same thing he’s been doing since 2015 in wrestling a limited car round a track and squeezing every last point out of it.

Ocon is underrated on his speed thanks to a difficult 2020. He was clearly, consistently quicker than Perez in his second year at Force India, he’s back driving on a better level than last year now. He’s young, on the up - not an easy team-mate for a 40 year old supposed “has been”

Tbh, my fandom of Kimi drifted off during his 2nd stint at Ferrari. He was just phoning it in most of the time.

I've never replaced him with a favorite, I just cheer for the sport. And when Hamilton (rarely) fails. ;)

Like Peat, I'd recommend to anyone to not latch onto a single driver and become a more well rounded fan of the sport. You'll enjoy it a lot more.

I have Kimi and Vettel who I outright support.

Any of the drivers who have joined in the last 10 or slightly more years i've watched them race for years in the junior formula so I just have a bunch of guys I like and have appreciated in the lower categories, so I doubt i'll support any one driver in the same way I used to.

As at the moment i've got like half the grid covered for cheering for them at some time or another before they got to F1, I might have a preference of one over another, but it's not that massive difference really.

Not Kimi's fault, but could you tell the TV we know he went for a sh*t. We don't need to be told this, five times a race at the expense of more interesting stuff, for the rest of the season.

He gets lots of credit for things he never actually said, and unfortunately this is another example.

Bullfighting isn't a sport.  It's considered an art, and that's where it appears in the media.

I was a Kimi fan since 2002 and have always had a week spot for him since. Followed his WRC and short Nascar career aswell. Verstappen dethroned him on my favorite driver list when was he was still in F3 tho, so for now nothing changes.

I do feel I support more drivers on the grid than say, back in 2005. A lot of guys on the grid I hope do well.

One critical post and it's already bashing. You did exactly the same about Alonso..... just saying.

I've always had a soft spot for Kimi, but don't think I've ever been a seriously hardcore fan of any driver since Nelson Piquet, who will probably remain my favourite forever!  Unlike some, it seems, I don't find it easy to switch allegiances and it's not something I feel I have any control over.  It's more of an emotional  than a conscious choice.  Back in the day I supported McLaren, so tended to support whichever driver drove for them, but again while I have a strong nostalgic affection for them I don't see them as the same team anymore since RD left.  And I quite like RB now for their competitive spirit and refusal to give up, even when facing seemingly insurmountable odds.  Things change, though - I never really supported Schumacher when he was driving (although I could certainly appreciate some of his more electric performances, most notably in the 1990s), but I got to admire him more and more as an sporting icon over the years.

I liked Kimi for his fearless driving when at McLaren, but since he left there supporting him has been an exercise in faith.  Give him a set of Michelins, and I think he's one of the best ever, but without them he seems a paler imitation.  Occasional flashes of brilliance, as recently as last year in Portugal when he had a stunning opening lap, but I have to admit that retirement is probably well overdue now.

There's certain drivers I like more than others, that's for sure.  Vettel is one of my favourite drivers just for his personality and he seems one of the more genuine ones out there, but again his recent performances have been very Kimi-like and certainly not something you'd expect from a x4 WDC.  He's probably the driver I'd be happiest to meet in person as he seems such a nice guy overall.  If I like their personality it helps a lot, but it's not a deal breaker.  I don't think I'd like to meet Kimi as he doesn't appear to have a nice personality at all (I thought the "taking a sh*t" comment was crass rather than cool), but I did like the fact that he appeared to be as apolitical as it comes and that's something I really like in a driver - just get out there and drive, enough of the mind games!  So that's probably why I like Kimi and Vettel and why I'm a lot less fond of certain other drivers.  I've warmed to Max.  He used to be a bit of a d*ck IMHO but lately he seems to have mellowed and although he can sometimes be a bit blunt I don't remember getting the impression that he's ever been particularly political with anything he's said and he tends to be straightforward.  And he's the most exciting driver to watch in a long while, which certainly helps!

So in a nutshell I can (and do) support multiple drivers and teams at once, without being an especially hard-core "fan" of any.  Current favourites are (in no particular order) Max and Vettel on the driver front, and McLaren and Red Bull on the teams one.  Never warmed to Ferrari that much, even when Kimi and Vettel were driving for them, don't really know why.  And I haven't quite warmed to either current McLaren driver, either.  There's no other driver or team that really grabs my attention in a positive way.  For the moment at least.  But I don't need my favourite driver to be doing well foe me to enjoy F1, otherwise I would have definitely fallen out of love with it during the Kimi wilderness years, which is pretty much most of the last decade!

I never liked Raikkonen, nor his persona, nor the sycophantic nature of his fans. One of the most over-rated drivers ever to grace the F1 grid, and won't be missed from my perspective when he departs. Raikkonen was a shadow of his average self when he joined Ferrari for the 2nd time, thrashed by an average Vettel and a complete waste of time in the Alfa. Raikkonen's decline was depressingly visible, and obvious, where Alonso, and Hamilton have maintained their speed. Raikkonen lost his much vaunted speed at least 5 years ago, and that's being kind.

Agreed with the loss of speed. As a Schumacher fan, he was the only one I was scared off in the early 2000s. He was insanely fast.

LeClerc.

If Max was more chilled out and less childish he would have been the true successor to Kimi, as his driving reminds me of his McLaren days.

There's a lot to be said for that, but I think there are pros/cons. I haven't been a fully blown fan of anyone in F1 since Damon Hill retired. I mean I did develop soft spots or mild dislikes of some drivers over the next 20 years, to varying extents, but to nowhere near the same level. It does help you look at the sport more objectively, but at the same time, there is that element of excitement missing compared to when I think back, and feeling less invested in what I'm watching. Maybe part of it is just an child vs. adult thing though.

Yeah, to quote Marcellus Wallace, I doubt Alonso ass will or has indeed aged like wine either except in the sense that it will also turn into vinegar...

Can't say nothing on how his persona rubs off on you but 2002 to 2007 RAI was only 'average' enough for the Scuderia to push a 7 WDC into early retirement

yea I voted Mazepin as he's a kind of anti F1 driver... Really I see Verstappen in the same mold as Kimi but Verstappen talks too much.

For me it's going to be Vettel. I didin't like him during his Red Bull years but after that I've started to like him. He seems to be the guy who I would like the most to share a beer of the grid.

Another one who will get my support is Bottas.

As one of those who promised to support Mazepin I can confirm that it was thought seriously - in a blind hope that Nicky will kick Micky's ass one day. Of course it's not on the level of Kimi.

Kimi has been the last one of F1 drivers whose personality I can understand and like. But not on the level of fierce rooting for some drivers as a youngster.

So, after being a fan of Rindt, Cevert and Hunt I have been trying to be more unconcerned...
