Now the dust has settled, I have to say, I'm so happy for Alex. He really nailed it this year, and it was so impressive to watch. I have no doubt Pato and Colton will be fierce competitors next year, but I'm excited to see if Alex can keep up the consistency he displayed this year.

The way Newgarden hauled himself back into championship near-contention should be a warning too. The rest of the Penske team is misfiring but I suspect Josef will be the man to beat next year. He will be if he can sort out his form at Indy, at least.

Newgarden's 2022 to-do list:
1. See Turn 5 at Barber.
2. Gearboxes. Make sure they check the gearboxes.
3. Maximize points at Indy. Winning would do it nicely.
4. Nashville is just another race. Calm down.
5. Maximize qualifying.
All that said, and as much as I like Josef, my early money on next year's championship is on Dixon, who could tie Foyt and retire at his leisure in the next few years knowing the team appears to be in good hands. I suspect looking at an Astor Cup at HQ that's not yours is powerful motivation.

And looking at Helio getting another Baby Borg.

Would you be surprised to learn the re-broadcast of Lenghty Seaside did fairly well in Spain?

Step Two: Have him stay competitive early next year, so in Spain it's not the 2022 IndyCar schedule, but 17 races of Title Defense!
Step Three: Fernando who?
It would help immensely if the races were live in Spain.

There's also a background of needing a positive sports story since the Barça lost Messi to the PSG, especially for Catalonians.

Well done Alex.
Feel for Pato, but he isn't quite there to be champion.
Big off season of moves coming!

I would have hoped it had been billed as Larga Playa.
Palou is the real deal, isn't he? Indycar gains from yet another dropped ball by F1 which cannot see any further than F2 for talent.

I think F2 dropped the ball as well. He was really falling through the cracks until he took that chance on Super Formula and got Honda's attention. A good lesson that junior formula results can be quite murky unless you know the relative team strengths in each series.

There's also that weird phenomena that some drivers just seem to be better the faster the car is. Also see: Kobayashi, Kamui. Can be difficult to judge until the driver suddenly gets in a faster series through whatever reason.

It is not a particularly weird phenomena. There are two main parameters that changes with increased speed and if they are not in harmony, the resulting performance will suffer. Those two parameters are precision and confidence. The faster you go, the smaller becomes the margin for error and if your confidence follow that shrinkage then each step up to a faster car will drop you further behind. Of course, confidence is depending on skill, experience and bravery. All of those becoming progressively more important as the speed increases.

Another year of constant fried chicken and he'll be too big to fit in the cockpit of the car. Penske and Dixon can then resume their winning ways.

There's also an interesting story brewing about Race Control. Seems the paddock is not happy with some of the calls this year.

Yeah MP hasn't minced words about Jones' move on O'Ward at all.
Interesting to hear that Grosjean reportedly isn't happy with MP over something - assuming to do with the Andretti move?

You'll need to go Tracy size. He can be 2-3 times champion by then.

Oh, and before we leave Long Beach, enough post-race analysis has placed the blame solely on HCN for the incident in warmup that I, in the interests of personal growth, must admit that I was not entirely correct in my take.
There.
