As I did write in the headline - are there any books about Alta ?

A friend was looking for reading material, but could not find anything.

Ralf, the twelve page thread on here could be the best bet!

DSJ wrote a feature in Motor Sport back in 1981:

I don't think I've ever seen a book specifically on Alta (and a Bookfinder search shows nothing). Anthony Pritchard gives the cars four pages in British Racing Green (1969), copies of which can still be found quite quite cheaply on the internet.

Ah, well done Arjan. I'm guessing this is one of Colin Pitt's softback compilations? I've never seen that title and it's missing from the Bookfinder list. Very new or, more likely, out of print? Abe, Stella and Rose etc now seem to have sold their copy/copies.

A Passion For Speed by David Abecassis, about his father, but good luck finding it for a reasonable price.

I think I ended up with the limited edition because by then it was cheaper than the standard.  :drunk:

And David Venables has a well-illustrated eight-page chapter on Alta, HWM and Connaught in his 2008 book, also titled British Racing Green.

I understand that a book is being prepared but surprised no one has approached us as we have owned four of the six two litre sports cars.

There are quite a few references to the post war Alta and Geoffrey Taylor in Peter Lewis's book Alf Francis Racing Mechanic including a chapter entitled "Racing the Altas" and another on "Building the H.W.Alta".

Thank you - forgot about this - have it on my shelf..... Oh well, must have been ages when I read it.

There is some stuff about the Altas in chapter 3 of "Design and Behaviour of the Racing Car" by S Moss and L Pomeroy, including a cut away drawing of the engine, but the chapter is more about the HWMs Moss drove using the Alta engine.
