When the Australian government proposed going to Euro 5 the manufacturers pointed out that it would be a lot easier to meet it if 91 octane was the minimum. Same happened with diesel at around the same time frame, sulphur dropped a lot, so we could fit DPFs.

How big a difference is there on an engine sold in EU. Where 95octane is universal, and the same engine sold in USA.
I would guees it somehow must be "downgraded" to 91 octane?
It’s just a different standard on how you measure octane. 91 octane US (AKI) is roughly the same as 95 octane Europe (RON)

Different countries rate their fuel differently. 93 in the US is eqivilant to 98 here in Oz.
And a US gallon is short arse to the imperial gallon.
This whole thing is criminally dumb!!
In the UK [and some of Europe] has 'fuel oil' at the pump. For older farm vehicles and cars.
Big signs under the fuel door of rentas not to use it.
The diesel KIA I had in England I suspect had some in it when I picked it up. I though this is going to be a total pain of a car. After refilling it with the correct fuel it did ok.
