Wet race or damp start?

Myweather2 suggests a light shower possible till 13:00 local with the likelyhood of further showers becoming less and less likely.

Given the context of this season, I can't tell if these are typos or taking the piss

We will see...

Cloud cover expected to start lifting about 2 PM and be fully clear by 3 or so.  But it is weather and I'd probably do better blindfolding myself and throwing darts at a series of pictures of weather at a dart board.   :stoned:

Rin is Rains lesser known and much milder cousin.

Pissed on sure fire wine, probably.

I don't buy Max's comments that he is ok with finishing runner up. Those are a bit strained/rehearsed.

That said, Lewis desperately wants #8 and it shows.

I think this is his mental MO. He seems to benefit from downplaying everything. Whenever things get exciting for Verstappen, in interviews he reassures himself he's learned everything he has to know from his father, he has a life outside of F1, he can only give his best, etc. Of course, this is cliché-ridden stuff, but he seems to stay calm that way.

Another example of this is that sometimes, he doesn't allow himself to celebrate. Zandvoort comes to mind: He wins a race he could have very easily lost, tens of thousands of orange supporters go mental, and he's barely smiling. You could almost see him think: "Don't get too excited, don't get carried away!"

Any chance that Mercedes' modifications are responsible for the swing in form after FP1? Or am I looking for excuses for sounding like a fool after believing that their perceived pace advantage was real?

:p

They had a setup with lot of speed but the likelihood of not lasting the race was high?

Biggest race of Perez's RB career by far. He has to run Hamilton hard. Get under him, get beside him, anything. Its going to be difficult to do.

But once they do...

I wonder if F1 have added soft barriers in front of that armco barrier.

Yeah I remember that one ... and it was caused by the big bump launching him airborne.

There was a clear recent performance trend in Mercedes’ favor which objective people could easily see.

Objective people could also easily see that yesterday the RB was the faster / easier car.

Non-objective people state silly hyperboles like ‘RB/Merc is the dominant car this year’.

Yes all agreed. The performance difference is generally small. Even when one car is ahead of the other, it requires the drivers to put in a good lap and not make any errors. Whoever wins the title this year will have earned it, deserved it and performed the best over the season.

I suspect the Hard tyre will be Mercedes saving grace today

And maybe the reinforcement they've had to do because of the bumps "Massacre-ing" and "breaking the car".

Remember when all the mechanics were looking at the diffuser area in the Merc garage? Seems they had to modify the car to avoid "breaking the car".
“So what we did is that the car was bottoming out quite heavy, and that breaks the car,” said Wolff. “So we took some mitigating steps to not break it, or massacre it that hard, in order to survive the race.

"Definitely a compromise for going faster on the track, but maybe a necessity to actually finish.”

Weather Underground is very reliable for me here in Austin. It says there will be a high of 88F, and I believe it. We see early clouds like this all the time, only to end up with a hot day. But ... at least it will be humid! ;)
