Reading Alan Henry's book about GP Brabhams I was reminded that Jacky Ickx (1969) and Rolf Stommelen (1970) came to the team with "a couple of DFVs". That fits with Ford branding on the cars. Tyrrell Racing Organisation and JYS were closely connected with Ford, so we can assume that engines were free or subsidised. And at Lotus where it all started, we can assume that Colin Chapman organised a good financial deal.

Who else had a free or cheap DFV deal in those days? Or a Ford decal on the car?

How does the £100,000 seed money from Ford to Cosworth compare with the cost of DFV engine deals sponsored by Ford national subsidiaries?

Didn’t Tyrrell have to pay for his DFVs at least initially in 1968? Maybe by 1970 he was getting free ones.

Sounds plausible for 1968. In 1969, Tyrrell Racing Organisation (aka Matra International) wore a Ford sticker. A slightly bigger one next year.

Wondering if the those DFV's Ickx and Stommelen took to Brabham were financed by Belgian and German Ford budgets respectively or by Ford Europe ?

The Stommelen DFV might be financed by Ford Germany.

Gerhard Mitter jr. told me the story that his father was prepared to participate in the F1 World Championship in 1970 with his own team, contracts were made with Ford Germany. Gerhard Mitter also ordered a chassis but unfortunatelly his son had no recollections which one it should be. There was some hassle after Gerhard Mitter´s death to withdraw from the contract with the car manufacturer.

It´s very likely that the Ford backing was then transferred to Rolf Stommelen.
