Given that two of the girls racing in Formula W are a couple, I wondered how many other couples has competed against each other in racing and rallying. Eric and Pat Carlson, possibly the Wisdoms? Paul and Jane Wignall compete in historic rallying. Any others?

Did they compete against each other in different cars though? My query was couple competing against each other.

Ah, no I don't believe they did. Should have read your question !

Ann Wisdom co-drove for Pat Moss on a number of events where her husband, Peter Riley, was also competing. I can't remember if her parents, Tom and "Bill" Wisdom competed against each other, but I think not.
Another rallying couple could have been Val (Domleo) and Donald Morley but again I think not.

Werner and Ziggy Gudzus competed in sedans in the early days of Canadian racing. Werner was a regular and Ziggy an occasional racer.
I saw them race, but cannot find a listed record. I would expect in amateur circles such as SCCA, there would be similar couples competing.

Possibly not what you were looking for, but speed events in the UK (hillclimbs and sprints) are awash with them - also Father-Son, Father-Daughter, Mother-Son combos - all sorts; sometimes sharing a car, sometimes not.

John and Wendy Markey. Sometimes they shared a car in long distance races, occasionally they were in different cars in the same race - e.g. 1977 Tourist Trophy, both entered by Smith Kendon Travel Sweets.
Enzo Calderari and Lilian Bryner often shared a car in endurance races during the '90s, including several times at Le Mans; but I don't know whether they ever competed against one another?

Deryk and Sue Young in the British Hill Climb Championship a while back: Terry and Trish Davis nowadays; Wallace and Nicola Menzies. In fact there are loads!

Enzo and Lilian always competed as a couple, their greatest victory came at the Spa 24 Hours in 2004, though their '95 BPR season came close............a class act

As a speed event person myself I discounted the hill climbers and sprint folk in that they were not on track against each other at the same time.

Many examples in historic racing (the Lyons family, the Blakeney-Edwardses, the Masons etc).

Frank and Judy Lyons both take part in Historic F1, although their son Michael always beats both.
Colin Feyerabend and Mira Feyerabend are both regulars in British Sports 2000. I expect they'll be out at this weekend's Formula Ford Festival.

Did they compete separately or as driver and co driver. I was looking for those who competed in the same events against each other.

My recollection is that they competed as driver and co-driver (although, as an aside, they competed against their father in cross-country competitions).

Michael is a lot younger and Judy is ther making up the numbers. And no she is not that bad either

Same event, competing against each other in the same class: speed events qualify on all counts, as do those I suggested, plus many others.

Not wishing to be taking a prurient interest, but as the OP mentioned a same-sex couple, surely there could have been young male racers who were 'flat-mates' back in the days when almost everyone was still in the closet?

I thought you were after couples in the romantic sense rather than siblings. Combining the two would be incense.

Plenty of couples have competed against each other in historics – John & Mary Foulston, David & Lorina McLaughlin, John & Gillian Goldsmith, Frank & Judy Lyons in more recent times, plus many more I should think.

In that case nor strictly speaking are the rally competitors mentioned above who, like the hillclimbers and sprinters, also compete against the clock not each other at the same time.... I'll get my coat ;-)

From deep down in my memory, I seem to remember that they did indeed, both in an XK120. It was I think , in Derwents patch being the Lakeland Rally.

Clearly this isn’t something that a big deal has been made of. Which two are a couple?

There are three girls in Formula W who are openly gay but I've forgotten which one the commentator said were a couple. Abbie Eaton of course is also the stunt driver fro the Grant Tour.

And, earlier still, Elton Sawyer and Patty Moise both competed in NASCAR series while married.

Abbie Eaton and Jessica Hawkins seem completely open about their current relationship.
Perhaps its a good sign that, despite being open about their relationship, it isn't mentioned at every opportunity during broadcasts. I've watched nearly every W Series race and I don't think it was ever brought up during the races.
Maybe if they had crashed into each other it might have made for some commentary gold.

Going back to the first post, that mentions Eric and Pat Carlsson, John Sprinzell and Pat Moss was an earlier relationship that competed in the same events in different cars.

Yes, just in passing. Mind you these girls are quite open about their sexuality.

Here in New Zealand we had Ray and Eivie Williams who competed against each other in saloon cars
The photo shows the two Team Williams cars in a race for Ford Escort Sports at Pukekohe in April 1979.
