Just wanted to say hi on this thread! Go on my son!
Not sure that Bernie is the pre-eminent expert on matters concerning white powder, though.
There must be a number of better candidates - <redacted for legal reasons> for one.

How’s the trawler business going these days Dad?

Yes, in a limited sense. But not like having to pay ££££ to get a Sky Ski channel.

Sky Ski channel has a ring to it....

I think I've always had Eurosport as part of my cable package, and before that it was free on the Astra Satellites back to my first experience of it in 1991 when they actually showed all the qualifying, practise sessions and races for F1 live! Imagine that!

I wanted to join in with the mockery, but this is essentially what Bernie did in the old days. I guess there's a logic to getting him involved, although why the ski folk didn't call up someone a tad more up to date with the modern broadcasting world is still a fair question.

That was my thought - they almost need Bernie to drag them into the TV era and then Liberty Media or similar to get them into social media/streaming.

Good on Bernie. Despite what modern F1 fans tell you, F1 wouldn't be where it is today without Bernie.

Yes, it is entirely his fault.

On astra we also got some of the foreign sports channels. It was handy as I could change channel when itv went to the ads.

I am just worried what will happen when Bernie discovers all the newer branches of the sport.  Snowboarding & free-style skiing.  All those scruffy dudes in floppy clothing.  He probably still thinks it about downhill racing on wooden skis with lace up boots.

Catch fencing to be made of barbed wire to keep everyone on the course.

Fun fact - at the first post-WW2 motor race meeting in England in 1946, at RAF Gransden Lodge, the spectator areas were fenced off with barbed wire.

Not only is Eurosport a pay channel, it's owned by Discovery, who have recently bought the rights to the Olympics.  I don't believe Bernie will get very far with them, he'd be cutting off the broadcasting of the sport in Europe and possibly elsewhere, with sod all alternative broadcasters available.

Streaming service DAZN - UK-based but hardly known here as at present they only provide Matchroom boxing matches to the UK market, a contract they recently took over from Sky - are rumoured to be buying BT Sport.

They already stream the Eurosport skiing coverage in several European countries and are currently the rights holders for IndyCar in much of Europe, including Italy, which is apparently going to be part of the new Sky deal from 2022.

Interesting times?

There was still barbed wire at Burnenville in 1960, though not installed by the race organisers.
