I have not seen this being discussed:

Well, I don't know what to think, that's the problem. On one hand, I think China is a market F1 can't ignore and on the other, I think there are already too many races.

You?

It makes it easier for F1 to squeeze the circuits that aren't paying as much as others to host events. It also is maintaining the 'world' aspect (at least we're getting races across the globe now)

Well I haven't really missed the Chinese Grand Prix for a couple of years. With so many races nowadays, I'd not really be that concerned about having it back. I don't think there'll be a Chinese WDC or manufacturer entering F1 anytime soon, so they're pretty low down my priority list for a Grand Prix.

That's been true since long before I was born though.

Yeah, I probably didn't need to add the word 'now'

I'd have Shanghai anyday over some of the circuits like Abu Dhabi, Paul Ricard. Also it would be insane not to have a presence in China in an era where their financial muscle is becoming hard to ignore.

Probably also has a lot to do with next week’s announcement of a Chinese driver

Indeed. The second highest GDP and 3 times the third highest.

I quite like the circuit personally. There's been some good races in China over the years.

This was a circuit that delivered the best races out of any circuits in F1 calendar in the 2010-2012 period so I would be sad if it disappeared from the calendar alltogether. I think it has a good design for F1 racing, although with F1's recent over-reliance on DRS and ever worsening dirty air problem, it's been a bit blurred out recently which type of circuits are expected to deliver good races nowadays, but with 2022 changes it may be a different story again.

Why doesn't FOG give them a contract for life just like their dictator gave himself?

Why would they want to commit to that length of contract?

It’s OK for a modern circuit. Nothing special.

I don't mind a race in China as long as the Chinese show some enthusiam for it.  The closure of grandstands at Shanghai due to lack of support was not a good sign.  I wonder if a decline in interest will continue or has it stabilised?  We shall see.  As for the circuit, it is so-so.  Not one of the best, but definitely not one of the worst.

If I recall correctly, the Chinese GP still drew more fans than most other races in the calendar. It's just the gigantic size of the facility (used to be over 300 thousand seats?) that made it look rather barren anyway, even with 100k+ spectators.

The World Series of Baseball is hosted in one country only ;P

Seems premature, the country doesn't seem to be opening up any time soon.

Is that a problem?

I don't really have an opinion either way, but it will be a headache for the organisers to have to find a replacement venue for another year, or perhaps longer.

Too bad, it’s not a circuit to be missed and the calendar is crowded.

The teams would not mind the time off.

Ohh yes. The COVID19 epicenter. Wonderful. Saudi and China. F1 makes all the right decisions.

At least there's a chance that Chinese have their own driver for few years.

Covid was a mistake (not deliberate imo).  I don't think it needs to be held over them?

Yep in theory, Zhou would allow the event to be more popular.
