Does anyone want to start a thread on how they could take Assen and ruin it make it suitable for F1?

I mean it was already a bit ruined in 2005 when they chopped off half the circuit, but it's still got some unique and challenging corners that would probably just be inconveniently non-straight flat-out bits in a F1 car.

Hope this happens soon.

Accommodations are great, but the circuit is not suitable for F1 cars. Will not happen in my view.

We had 0 overtakes here with Indycar. It is in essence a motor track.

Zero news from Dutch outlets about this.

It was mentioned at Voetbal Inside yesterday (by Chris Woerts). And there was a piece on BNR.

When Zandvoort was first announced, I guess a couple of years ago now, either the Assen circuit or the local government there did a bit of a push to hold the race at Assen instead. But nothing has actually come of this.

Champ Car raced at Assen way back, and the track even for them seemed totally unsuitable.  Utterly dull race.

Fortunately I doubt they would ever have the $40m sanctioning fee.

The DTM races were surprisingly fun there this year, but I think it's not very suitable for bigger single seaters.

Dutch should be the first and last races of the European races.

So which round will the Assen Grand Prix be in the 52 GP calendar?

Not suited to F1. Really hope this doesn’t happen.

Zandvoort can be sold as Amsterdam Beach, but Assen? There is nothing interesting around there.

2 races in the Netherlands? Is Max really that popular? They're gonna need a bigger paddock before they can even think about hosting a race.

Max sells out the Dutch, Belgian, and Austrian GPs - I don't think Assen will happen, but he's popular enough for 3 Dutch GPs.

Assen seems like a marginally less silly option than Zandvoort - at least as a race track. I get that Zandvoort has a good location but it’s a pretty terrible track for modern f1 cars and I can’t see this being any worse 🤷🏻‍♂️ ?

Having both on the calendar, though? No way!

You could say the same about Perez' popularity in Mexico, he could and would also sell out another Mexican GP.

Complete and utter buIIsh!t out of thin air. Voetbal inside is probably the worst informed and most opportunistic tv show in the Netherlands that will say anything for a few extra viewers.

Even one of their presenters (Johan Derksen) said last week he would not watch the show himself.

Don't agree, as pure race track Assen has less to offer for single seater. MotoGP is different off course.

Too narrow, twisty, just totally unsuitable. No overtaking opportunities, no real big braking zones, left right left right left right start the next lap complete procession never go back. Next.

If overtaking is the metric by which a track is judged ro be good then half the races on the calendar can be termed as unsuitable.

And the other half provide just boring DRS "overtaking".

If it replaces any of the authoritarian races, I'll say do it next year..

It's the cars, not the tracks, if we're honest.  It's not a coincidence that every track becomes "the worst"  when F1 blows into town.....

Next argument will be that the track has no elevation changes

That rules out the whole country bar Limburg.

I have no interest in a GP at Assen, but I cannot see why it is 'unsuited' for F1.  It is just another Tilke-style track.  Now, Monaco, there is a track that is unsuited for F1.

*grabs pitchfork*

TT-track: hosts races since 1925-1954, permanent track since 1955. Butchered in 2005 with the removal of the northern loop.

Herman Tilke: architect since 1984, born in 1954.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is being pushed into the media by people in the Assen camp. Those that followed the Dutch GP rumors from the beginning will remember how the Assen camp really liked talking to the media and grew quite bitter when it became clear that Zandvoort was in pole position to land the race. This rumor feels like it came straight out of that same playbook. They probably feel this is their last chance before the calendar grows too crowded.

There is reduction in European races in terms of the % with the increase in races a season. So more European races in anywhere in the proper EU is welcome and +ve.

		2022	2021	2019	2014	2009	2004
Races 23	22	21	19	17	18
European Races	10	11	9	8	8	10
		43%	50%	43%	42%	47%	56%

Tilke style?

Yes, it is a track very much in the same idiom as Tilke's creations.  Perhaps he was inspired by Assen?  The recent change of the start of the lap to a curlicue is totally similar to Tilke's trademark first corner complexes.

None of this is a compliment.

The resemblance is striking.

I'm glad we all hate the 2005 revision of the circuit.

I must admit Assen is a circuit I don't really "get", could a bikes fan explain its appeal to me?
