Felt obliged to check out the station via Google Streetview. Not much of a view of it but there's a very pretty MG Magnette at the nearby filling station.

There are a few shots in Google Images but none really do the station justice.  There had been a station there in pre-Beeching days but it was totally razed so the GWSR has to start from scratch to build a modern station but in the right period idiom.  Which they have done quite well.  The heritage railway managed to build it for a million quid or so whereas our profligate national railway manages to blow tens of millions of taxpayers cash to build new stations far smaller and less well equipped.  But of course, it isn't Network Rail's money so why should they care?

I see the MG Magnette to which you refer.  Funnily enough, the last time I was there was on the Friday when the UK's mad petrol delivery crisis broke, back in the autumn, and that fuel station was the first place I saw the muppets queuing to panic buy.

Comprehensive rally preparation there.  Bung on three spotights and pump up the hydrolastic suspension for better ride height and off we go..  I wonder if anything was done to increase the massive 55 bhp of the MG1100?

Just for completeness, here's The Motor's road test Morris 1100, with me alongside doing my best Just William impersonation (the broken arm was not the car's fault).

Here in Oz we got the 1100S which was a 1275. Most scrapped for bigger engines for Minis.

As for 1100s, I have owned [traded] one that was sent to the wreckers, A Mini with clutch hydraulics in constant flow, I think we sold that :p

And an auto Mk1 Landcrab with no reverse that I sold to a hippie. All unwanted trade ins. Though I did once buy a SD1 Rover, that was well ,,,,,,, a Rover. By the time I got it back to the yard ]about half a mile] the A/C and two windows has stopped working. After a few more days nothing worked and it was running on 6. Some plugs and plug wires fixed that but it went to the Auctions where I got my money back

1100s probably had a reasonable amount of development by then. Pat Moss and Pauline Mayman made the 1100 debut (using 677 BRX) on the 1962 Liege.

Raymond Baxter and Ernie McMillan ran an MG 1100 in the 1963 Monte Carlo. Given the BMC Comps works history, I won't be so bold to say it was the exact same car, but it was the same rego 399 CJB. Within my collection I have the 'Confidential' Baxter/McMillan works Monte instruction booklet.

#33 Morris 1100, Glendale Suburban Motors, Brampton, Ontario; driver Dudley Smith, Toronto: Race No 3 — Touring Cars — All Classes, Canadian Grand Prix, Mosport, 22 September 1962.

Note: predates the race at Snetterton by a week. Is this the (international) race debut?
