What a year. What a weekend. What a race.

8 years ago I started my first topic here on Autosport: https://forums.autos...-make-it-to-f1/

The topic title was later changed to what it is now. But boy did he make it to F1.

My body was shaking at the start of the race, but it rattle apart in that last lap. I've aged 20 years I think today. Thank you Max for this wonderful year!

Either driver deserves it IMO..   but felt gutted for Lewis because of the FIA.

A tactical masterclass from the Red Bull team to clinch victory from the jaws of defeat in a last gasp and hugely controversial bombshell lap.

Love him or hate him, love them or hate them, they have ended this extraordinary season with the Driver's Championship in a race that will be scrutinised, argued over and dissected for evermore.

An incredible spectacle.

Have quit watching because of Mercedes and did not expect this to happen. Saw in the news and I am shocked, but happy for Max.

Well deserved. Yes, today was a farce. But it was a long season with two brilliant drivers and one had to win, and probably the slightly better one won. A generational talent and, no doubt, more titles will follow. Congratulations!

9 race wins, 10 if you count Spa, and gave Lewis the toughest fight he's had since 2007.

Red Bull finally built a car that could compete with Mercedes.

Honda turned it around after years of pain, misguidedness, doubt and derision.

Congratulations to Milton Keynes, Tokyo and Hasselt.

[Er, appeals pending. But surely not.]

What a driver, what a race. This man is on another level. He was punted off by Hamilton, punted off by Bottas, punted off by Pirelli. Had to fight with one hand on his back in a slower car and he STILL came out on top.

Most insane season ender ever. Max, you’ve been the best for a long time. Now it’s finally been confirmed. GODSTAPPEN!!

FIA ****t Up by the Numbers a fitting end to a controvertial race..."dividing the baby between the compatants".
*Longest* race I have ever watched!!!
Right winner by the wrong manner/means...as if FIA were paying a reparation on their racestart decision.🙃

PS!
Fullrespect to Lewis & Anthony Hamilton, pure class 👍😎👍

PPS
Of course congrats to the newest WWC Mr Verstappen. 🍾🎉👍

What an exciting end of an utterly boring race. Congrats to Max, I think in the end the best driver of the season won it. Big, big kudos to Lewis, for being such a great sportsman after a such a strong race, the WDC really looked to be his. Max can learn a few things from him in losing with dignity and showing your opponent respect.

One of the best WDC winning campaigns ever under pressure, up there with Alonso 2006 and Hamilton 2018. What an incredible drive all season long.

Max was amazing... BRILLIANT, deserved it 100% and was the best driver

I hate Horner, Marko and Jos with all my being, maybe now they will show Hamilton the respect he deserves?... because he was pretty good too

There is nothing to be done about it*...No recompense is enough, and the race is done as is, there will be No rematch.

*) If TPTB get it wrong (wrong decision) during the race..It stays so, otherwise you open a mighty pandorasbox..

Congratulations to Max. Gutted for Lewis as I do believe he should have won the race and therefore the championship - though on balance Max was better over a season.

Congratulations.
The best driver on balance over the whole season.
I'm sure he wouldn't have wished to win it this way, but the circumstances generally fade in to insignificance as the years go by.

Yeah congratulations Max. One of the most impressive championship campaigns we've ever seen, if not the. To be able to keep up this level for 22 races, as a 24 year old fighting Lewis Hamilton and the juggernaut that is the Mercedes team in the hybrid era. Even if Max wins no more titles, this isn't just another title. This was sporting history.

His etiquette and racing behaviour have made me raise an eyebrow more than once, but he was about to get punished by it and in a way it's fair that he wasn't. It's on the stewards and the FIA to not allow that kind of stuff to go without consequences. A divebomb from that far behind shouldn't be rewarded, and Max has been doing it stuff like that for too long without facing any consequences. Ultimately, not his fault, his job is to push the limits and he did just that.

Happy for Honda too. It's a shame that they're pulling out, they struggled so much to get here. It is what it is, at least they went with a bang.

Seasons are won on averages (of luck, of talent, of car performance, of steward meddling), not single events.

Congratulations to Max Emilian Verstappen!! The flying dutchman! THE 2021 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD DRIVERS CHAMPION!!

I’m still shaking of adreline. But I must say. I don’t agree with nothing giving a penalty in the beginning, but I can imagine that the end is also felt by Mercedes. I think it’s fair to get them out. But first say we don’t and then we do. It’s just a s-show from the FIA. They should sort things out.

You can't tell people not to bring BS into the thread and then declare it a farce expecting people not to disagree with you on that. Come on.
