It's done. It's been a journey - physically and emotionally.

How would you rate the season? Who was YOUR driver of the season?

I have to look past my current rage to give it a 10.

Weather the last race was conducted fairly or not doesn't change the fact I have been gripped from the very start in Bahrain to sector 2 of the last lap in Abu Dhabi.

I gave it a 9. Would have been a 10 if not for the incompetency of Masi.

Max was the driver of the season for me, so at the end of the day he deserved the championship so much.

Will say, though, the way Hamilton handled the last lap (no crazy desperate moves) and the fact that he complimented Max was absolute class, goes to show how much he's matured over the years

Gave it a 7, I feel the sheer volume of controversies really spoiled the title fight.

I gave it an 8th, for full disclosure. Great battle but too much of the results given through officiating, and the scrambled calls in the very end. That knocked the edge off for me.

Lewis is my driver of the season. Max was fantastic, but Lewis is indomitable.

I give it an incomplete.  1978, 1982 and 1994 were worse.

On balance, the season was gripping.

But overall it reminds me a lot of the final season of game of thrones with that ending. Just making it up as they go along.

Max was a deserving champion, but he also was gifted out not out of merit.

I will repost what I posted in the main Grand Prix thread and the Congratulations thread:

'As a Nascar veteran, especially one that weathered the insane format of the playoffs, this is nothing new to me.

You invest countless hours of your life and time and it all changes in the literal last 5 minutes. It has happened so many times in the last years that what I am left with is some tough questions about how much time am I willing to invest in Racing anymore.
30+ Nascar races, 20+ F1 races, MotoGP, Indycar, WRC, IMSA, WEC, FE, F2, Superbikes, Touring Cars and on and on and on. I need a fresh approach to my own relationship with Racing as it has become untenable.

I am not upset because I cannot see how Lewis could've done anything better than that. I am proud of Lewis as well as all the men and women at Mercedes for an incredible year.
Max has in my heart, been the better driver. His over-aggression, desperation and antics are a shame but overall, he was better. I just don't like Red Bull Racing.

Mercedes World Champions, Max World Champion. Eh, like I said - I still had and will continue to have a great day no matter the outcome.

Congratulations Max, you were always destined for this. I wish you to be surrounded by better people.

And Lewis, we still rise. We learn, we grow and always, we never give up.'

I voted for Max and I give this season a 9.

It’s such a difficult one. It’s been a classic and definitely memorable but the end of the season has left a sour taste. I ranked the Saudi race a 1 and probably will for Abu Dhabi too. Far too much time spent discussing the stewards and Masi and not enough time talking the racing.

The greatest season of all time.

Just pips 2000 and 2007 for me.

Bonkers.

I do feel it would have a different outcome if Whiting was still here.

er I,m torn really -  a season with some great racing but also many questionable events and very "weird" application of the rules.

Cant decide if i saw a fantastic season of racing or some manufactured circus show.

Can’t decide if it was an epic season or if I’ve just wasted 22 weekends getting invested for it to end like that.

Probably both.

I'll say it again: this was the best season of F1 I have ever witnessed!!! It was so intense, it had absolutely everything!! In 20 years of F1, I have never seen a 10/10 season, but this was it!  Absolute 10/10!

You can't call yourself an F1 fan and rate it low, I can't believe there are people who voted lower than at least a 9!

Man of the day for me goes to Anthony Hamilton. I've always found him humble, classy, and a really sound guy.

I gave it a 9 and Max has to be the man of the year.

Not a 10 because we still have a very polarized grid, only Red Bull and Mercedes with a real chance at winning. Arguably Max and Lewis are in a whole another level right now, but whether they can or not, the 8 remaining team didn't stand a chance. It can't be a 10 with this happening. I'm aware it's difficult to avoid this situation in F1, but hopefully the new regs can help make it less blatant.

Race direction also left a lot to be desired, constantly overwhelmed by the situations they had to face. This season was a tough one, but they could've done a much better job in several aspects.

The title fight has been phenomenal. I've been watching F1 since the late 90s, and it's safe to say it was the best 1 on 1 duel ever. Alonso vs Schumacher was more dull, with one part of the season dominated by Alonso and another by Michael. They weren't at it all year long as Max and Lewis have been. Same goes for Alonso vs Vettel, or even Hamilton vs Rosberg. This was a true rivalry, very enjoyable and compelling. Drive to Survive won't be able to fabricate drama this time because you can't simply top this I don't think.

It's been the 2nd best season I've seen after 2012 from a racing point of view but by far the worst I have seen from a sporting point of view. Difficult to rate.

Max Verstappen was clearly the best driver of the season, but the season itself is only a 7 for me. While from the spectacle perspective it is a 10, Silverstone (specially), Hungary, or Mercedes rear wing in Brazil should not have happened, amongst others. In fact, the championship results might very well be decided now with laywers

You made some good points in there, but I guess it all depends on how you view it! For example I find a title fight between two drivers from two teams who go wheel-to-wheel at almost every race more exciting than than if we had 3 drivers from 3 teams fighting, but each race would be dominated by one of those!

Seven. Not being a fan of either protagonist meant there wasn't quite that emotional investment. For comparison, I felt more emotionally invested in Rosberg and his one shot at title glory.

10/10. What more could you want in an F1 season? Competition between two drivers from two different teams, going to equal points on the last race and then that going to the last lap. Only a couple of duff races. A new race winner and new WDC. Many different drivers getting podiums.

Loved it. And the driver who won was overall the worthy winner based on all races.

More teams in the mix, like 2009, 2010, 2012.

I gave it 9/10 because of that. It had everything apart from more fluent pecking order.

In terms of drama probably the best ever. Hard to see any other season beating this. All the controversy, Norris Russian GP performance, Mclaren's 1-2, Max Verstappen super quali laps, Perez defence of Hamilton (Brazil and UAE), Alonso's defence (Hungary) and more. F1 garnered a huge load of new fans this year.

In terms of driver of the season, can't take it away from Max either. Could have won the title even in October had luck fell his way.

I don't care to rate anything.

It's been a rollercoaster season, to be sure, gripping all the way to the end.

Somebody (one driver) won, somebody (another driver) lost. The way it has always been..and the way it always should be.

One thing that has (IMO) been highlited this year is inconsistencies in application of rules, which has created much distension and will probably end in (more) protests being lodged. Not pretty.

I agree with the supposition that F1 has become more of an entertainment, than a sport. Netflix have certainly got what they paid for.

That's a bit sad.

I am so very happy that the Mercedes hegemony has been broken, at least for the Driver's Title.  I REALLY hope that the cars are more equal next year, and that MB doesn't hit the ground with a rocket as they have for the last seven years.

[And I REALLY-REALLY hope they don't mysteriously find gains in the middle of a season when it seems that they'd hit the limits previously]

Epic season, Max the driver of the season for me.

Both Max & Lewis were head and shoulders above the other drivers, how often did we see then 20+ sec up the road from the rest of the grid.

Because of the dirty driving I only gave it an 8. It should have been a 10 because I can't remember any other season that has had this many battles between two championship contenders driving for different teams.

Because of Verstappen's and Hamilton's dirty driving, my driver of the season is Gasly. With Norris as runner-up.

Rate it a 9. Slightly spoilt by some inconsistent penalties.

Max a deserved WDC.

I think it will get harder for Lewis to get that 8th title, what with the new regs and a new team mate.

Other than Max and Lewis, the two drivers that stood out for me were Sainz who just gets better every season and the other was Lando who at times showed the same sort of talent as the top two. Although he had rotten luck in the second half of the season.

Next year should be good

Just a 6 from me. Maybe because it was very much the Verstappen/Hamilton show. There were a lot of good races but I’d still still like it more competitive up front. Very often they’d put at least a minute if not a lap on the likes of Ferrari and McLaren. And Red Bull and Merc very much had no 1 drivers. I’d hope that Ferrari, Alpine and McLaren are much closer to the front next season

The best season overall I can remember seeing since I started to follow the sport closely (1992).

Max and Lewis were both in a league of their own and the ending was one for the ages - no matter what you think about the outcome.

Gave it a 9. Not a 10 because the FIA/stewards were to much of a "factor" in many races.
