Yes, that's right race fans.....

Another year, another Livery Competition Thread !

Here's our Hall Of Fame.

hall-of-fame-v2.jpg

Back To Basics !

We think the idea of 2 side by side contests is a good thing but after the frightful mauling everyone took in the comedy livery competition we will go back to the single overall competition for all entries.

So...

As is the tradition in the boring off-season part of the year we have ourselves a little competition for who can design the best racing livery. And that term can really mean a lot of different things. We've had everything here - from stunning designs that would surely become fan-favourites if implemented in the real world, to comedic wonders forever remembered in the forum folklore.  Your task is as always to try and come up with the best idea and make it a reality. Well, in this case by reality we mean pixels on the screen. Just create whatever you want within the rules (more on that later).  There will be some guidelines but in the end the voters will decide for themselves who they want to vote for in places 1 - 3 podium.

And the big award for winning the competition will be, as always, the honorable task of hosting the next edition and also will gain a place in our hall of fame alongside all the previous winners.

The template is available HERE in .png format. It is also posted as an image below. Thanks to Maximillion for the New Template. You are of course free to use any kind of software and technique in your creation process. If I might suggest, use of advanced lighting and shading is mostly discouraged - the ideas should be more important than professional execution, let's keep it relatively simple. It's not a strict rule but we want to keep the competition open to most people regardless of their graphic skills.

If you can, please save your entry as a file with dimensions of at least 1200px on the longer side. For uploading your results I personally recommend https://postimages.org/ as it's simple and has a good record of long-term file storage.

RULES RULES RULES

No competition is complete without some rules. This isn't some high-stakes game so things are not very strict unless they stray too far from the good will and friendly spirit, but please keep these in mind.

  • Only images created using the template provided above will be entered in the voting process. This rule is known as the ForeverF1 edict.
  • Please try to avoid modifying the template. An exception can be made for small details.
  • Don't copy already existing racing liveries - this includes ones from outside of F1. Of course the distinction between copying and adapting or being inspired by something can be blurry but do try to make it your own design as much as possible.
  • If some dispute can't be resolved by other means, forum moderators or Jp will have the final say.

       The Schedule.

  • Entry submission is open until Sunday Feb 27th (end at midnight GMT)
  • Voting process will take place between March 1st to March 15th (end at midnight GMT)
  • The final results will be announced on March 18th as Practice for race 1 of the 2022 F1 season begins

On the final note I'd like to encourage people to enter. This competition is not reserved just for those with serious graphic skills, we're trying to keep it open and accessible to everyone. So don't worry if you're not a photoshop master, it's the ideas that count for most here.

Thank you Anja for this great opportunity for me to cut and paste your entire introduction !!

Now,

Get Creating !!

Thank you, but the template was actually merely modified from an original made by a bloke named Felix Dicit, it's been making its rounds on the internet.

As stated above, I present to you my first entry in such a competition, both for the s88ts'n'giggles as well as exorcising all demons still left from that horrid 'finale'.

Here's my abomination: the 5 Second Time Penalty Racing Team powered by Red Bull Technology engines driven by Mika Salo and Derek Warwick.

To raise the level of the 2022 season, a new, vibrant and inclusive team surprisingly sprung up in the pre-season - a team of pure racers fan entertainers here to make F1 bigger and brighter than it already is, their 200+ million entry fee generously wavered by multi-media lobbyists and Aramco 'enthusiasts'.
The team will run numbers #57 and #58 as a homage to the last two laps of Abu Dhabi to highlight the landmark popularity that F1 has found itself in and are in close collaboration with the FIA Liberty Media to provide a richer fan-oriented experience.

And to showcase their commitment, the team based in Jeddah, unveiled their season veteran race stewards driver line-up of Derek Warwick and Mika Salo, to build on an already meme-able foundation of radical renown. Finally Mika and Derek can go for that first elusive win that eluded their careers for so long.

They hope to achieve this in close 'collaboration' with the governing body through rogue red flag deployment, botched shortened races and haphazard manipulation of long-standing rulesets to gain implausible advantages over their competitors or at least be so slow as to purposely derail the fight at the front and cohesively steer the championship fight towards a more 'exciting outcome' by being in the way all the time and maybe even a collision here and there with the leaders.

A promising and theatrical strategy to help steal your money, time and energy coming to a sideshow hustle near you.

I had an idea for a simple livery but the challenge has beaten me as I can't figure out how to paint the template without having this light gray remnants near the lines that make the car look absolutely disgusting when painted in a dark colour. I tried a few ways in MS Paint and GIMP but each one has failed me. I guess it mustn't be that hard to cope with it but I have 0 graphics skills.

LOL, I got it reversed. I knew that either singular or plural had a missing c. In my mind it was the plural, but turns out it's the singular. You live you learn.

Don't you worry. I had the same with my entry. Once you save it as a jpeg and upload it, those lines will likely vanish. Like with my entry, those lines are hardly visible. The only thing you will have to do is minimize those lines and just give it a shot.

Try Photopea. It's essentially a free browser-based version of Photoshop.

Sorry, I can't do this stuff for crap, but I'd have a FIA entry, probably in insipid yellow, displaying a very small pair of balls and the slogan:

"You race as one, but we choose the winner."

I love this ❤️

I have many many ideas!! Let’s see if I have some some time left.

I might do a trick and print the template and pencil sketch inside my design ... :smoking:

It‘s called handmade work. Or I‘d be full blown lazy and just watch your creations  :rotfl:
