Otmar said on Sky that engines were dissected in Viry, root cause was found and countermeasures in place in Japan.

F1: Alpine says updates "worked twice as good as expected" in mclaren fight (f1mania.net)

Another floor update for Austin.

Quoted by the Italian branch of Motorsport.com, Permane said: "The wind tunnel works very, very well.

"We are finding many things that work. We had planned an upgrade to Singapore and it worked twice as good as we expected, honestly.

"The version used in Suzuka is fourth of our floors. In fact, in Austin it will be kind of version 4B, because we have another update. It won't be as big as the one we used in Suzuka."

I'm looking forward to this!

It's such a shame that Alonso won't be part of it... Alpine need top driver to challenge Mercedes...

I have no doubts that Alpine will be very competitive for next season, just as Alonso leaves  :rotfl:

I wonder if he'll take a whole new PU. From memory,he hasn't got the ERS update yet.

Not to be pessimistic but am sure this is quite similar for all the teams. We just got to hope we find more than the others.

According to Fabrega only ICE. Makes sense. If he is only 10th or even worse in Q, they can change the whole PU anyway over night. But I guess they do not want to throw away a good result already on friday.

Aston is getting better every race so I don't think he did a wrong move at all

The graphic in FP1 showed that Alpine has the 2nd worse in season development rate so far. And to be honest: the car was really quick in the earlier part of the season (Melbourne Q!!!) compared to now.

The car was a beast there in Q (in dry conditions). But as the season progressed, gap to the front increased (4 tenths).

Maybe higher engine modes back then.

That's complete BS, as always with AWS estimations since 2020*
So Alpine has not only fallen back, they are slower than MCL?

Before Austria, the average gap to pole for Alpine was around 1.47%.
After Austria, which was the first dry weekend for the "A522B" that debuted in Silverstone, it's 1.22%, without counting Singapore where Alonso was 0.5% from pole (too good to be true + partly wet Q...). And that is better than 2020 & very close to the pink W10 level of 2020.

And if Alpine maintains a 0.9% gap in the 4 remaining Qs like Suzuka, the A522B will be the closest to p1 since Renault's return (probably the closest a midfield team has been since 2017. 2021 doesn't count)

Race pace gap to the winner improved nicely too according to @formulastats_ and is also a bit better than 2020.
