So McLaren puts F1, Indycar, Extreme E and Shadow on an equal level. All four teams will have a common launch on 11. February.

We got F1 covered in probably more than one way, so let's keep an eye on O'Ward, Rosenqvist, Foust, Gilmour, Idowu, Bereznay and Baroumand right here. Although even I have my doubts that McLaren Shadow will make a serious impact.  :cat:

Good thread!  I've wondered what Shadow was all about, I just now googled it and I have solved a mystery since early in the season.  I recall seeing this on the front suspension and never did find out (until now) what it was:

Shadow might be more familiar with Dutch fans as Rudi van Buren is heavily involved. Otherwise it is a McLaren programme by itself, that does reach out to the public, but could do better to build a name for itself. I do think that many, like you, will have to Google what it is.

I am not alone then!

Four for the price of one.  Good value, big saving on the sparkling wine and canapes.  And who really cares about Extreme E and Shadow anyway?

Well its a great way to attract attention to them all by presenting all in one go.

Isn't van Buren was still signed for Team Redline?

Yes, but that was not what I meant as being heavily involved. Rudy van Buren won "the Worlds fastest gamer" by McLaren. Which then landed him a place as a development driver/sim driver for the Woking based team. His involvement and his feedback led to "the Worlds fastest gamer" to evolve into the Shadow programme/event. Where Rudy also participated in the inaugural season.

I like how a good percentage of the posts here is about "had to google Shadow to figure out what that is". However, none actually shares it :p

Foust and Gilmour are giving it some welly. I really dig the livery.

Ah yes, Extreme E, damaging YOUR local environment in the interest of pretending to be saving it.

As it turns out our motorracing year got off to a less than desirable start, as Tanner Foust had a big shunt at the Extreme E Race in Saudi Arabia. Luckily he escaped without injuries.

They had some bad luck, but the drivers and car were competitive all weekend, won the crazy race, and made the finals on their first outing.  Pretty impressive really - apart from having to repair the MX, they should be happy with their start.

Yeah, pretty good showing. I feel that without the issue in Q2, they would have probably went through to finals normal way (from the semis).

Unfortunate that Tanner couldn't get ahead of the car he crashed into, if he cleared that car, the race would have been fine from then on.

The Hypen Race reports that Team Woking will takeover the Merc/HWA FE entry and taking Nissan powertrains.

I don't find the Merc take over unexpected, however the Nissan connection very much so.

Arn't McLaren Automotive's combustion engines ultimately (if very loosely) derived from Nissan technology?

Yes, according to Wikipedia...  :well:

"McLaren bought the rights to the Tom Walkinshaw Racing developed engine, itself based on the Nissan VRH engine architecture,[2] which was designed for the IRL Indycar championship but never raced. However, other than the 93 mm (3.66 in) bore, little of that engine remains..."

Frozenqvist to the rescue: After the Bahrain disaster the Indylads got their first pole position of the season at Texas Motor Speedway.

Felix P1, Young Mexican™ Pato O'Ward starting P10.

Race will start at 12:40 Eastern Time.

Every McLaren fan looking for a (probably) less painful race experience is invited to join us in the Indycar Race Thread:

Looks like this thread hasn’t been updated in a while, but I guess Pato’s contract extension and 2nd place at Indy yesterday are big enough news for a bump.
