Doesn't really matter. Any of those casual viewers who watched the season close will not be coming back anyway.

I'd suggest the opposite.  Casual viewers are much more likely to be interested in entertainment above sporting purity.  And controversy brings entertainment.  I shouldn't be surprised if a number of those tuned in this year just to see what the next episode will bring

I think you might be confusing casual viewers with new viewers. I think there will be many who used to dip into F1 every now and again that will now simply not bother.

I don't think that's quite true. Sure some will prefer the entertainment side but I think a lot value purity because it's the unscripted nature and level playing field which is so watchable.

I've said it before but just look at all the eSports growth, as level a playing field as you can imagine. They could easily code in "controversy" and luck but that would be hated.

It's quite easy to paint the younger generations as quite shallow but often such opinions are based on the noisy few rather than the quiet majority.

F1 offers compromise plan for three sprints in 2022: Formula 1 bosses are pushing for a compromise solution of hosting just three sprint race events in 2022, amid the ongoing dispute over costs.

Can I suggest an even better compromise of zero sprints?

What about minus 3, and we strike last year's sprint races from the record?

Is all that Crypto.com money to sponsor the sprint races not coming through? If they're really worried about cost increase they could give them some of that...

Be interesting to see how they handle the fan backlash.  Afterall, they kept saying they had proved to be very popular.

Maybe they paid Liberty upfront in bitcoin and now the ever-changing number of sprints is simply tracking the currency's value.

You're not suggesting that this company only founded five years ago with an unknown amount of backing and that has recently signing a series of massive sponsorship deals with various sporting entities may not actually be good for the money, are you Ross?

Perish the thought...

I go back to my original premise that since F1 racing IS sprint racing, why do we need a sprint race to set the grid for the sprint race?  :drunk:
