oh the MEMORIES! Pure potato quality
It is crazy how anything immediately pre-HD digital feed era feels like a lifetime ago, whereas the 2009 clip from Laguna feels contemporary.

Marshall Pruett reflects.

Good piece. The BoP discussion is fascinating. I’m pleased to see that ingenuity still lives in the super regulated IMSA racing world.

Racers gonna look for any edge!

Never seen this before, thanks for sharing! Also, it was nice to see Vanthoor and Jaminet hugging after the race. The finish reminded me of Sebring 2007 with that door to door battle between the Porsche and Ferrari (IIRC it was Bergmeister and Melo) for the last few laps, pretty sure Bergmesiter did NOT want to hug Melo after that one.
Edited to add a link. Still think this is Diffey's best commentary ever:

Fascinating indeed. I'm surprised that the teams are so hostile to IMSA's attempts to make it fair for everyone involved. You always knew that the likes of Penske was up to no good, but I'm surprised it's so pervasive.

I think the complaining about the announcers is baked into the experience for some fans. Having lived through Cheever/Goodyear, I have no issues with Diffey and the current IndyCar crew, but it would not shock me at all to find that Bobby Unser was thought too chatty, Sam Posey too cerebral, Chris Economaki too much of a know-it-all, Paul Page . . . etc., etc.
Viewers gonna bitch.

That's not hostility. That's knowing what your team is doing to try to beat the system, and imagining that everyone else is already three steps ahead of you.
If you're not trying, you're not TRYING.

And to be fair, I shouldn't call it beating the system, but rather exploring the boundaries of what is not yet expressly regulated or clearly forbidden.
aka, creating the unfair advantage.
