Well, for sure it will be quite more intense than the regular Time Trial.
But it's still a qualification run, so i doubt the teams will go all out like on race day in the wheel to wheel battles.
Could be wrong tho

Kristofferson wins Heat 2 with an omnious last minute charge, and a last meter overtake on the Andretti in the last downhill.
McLaren was fighting for the lead in the early stages, but there was a problem in the driver switch.
edit: RXR penalized for overspeeding in the switch zone!! Andretti wins the quali round!
more drama.
What a start of the season, those qualifying heats were bonkers good.

The show is overall really improved, and the battles are closer than ever.

McLaren qualified for the final, winning the Crazy Race with a super performance.

Great racing. Really enjoyed McLaren fight back and go through to the final. To be fair, they probably deserved to go to one of the semi finals and then probably have a relatively straight forward entry into final. Foust/Gilmore combo seems to be fast.

It was on ITV, but not on BBC (strangely). It's also available on demand on Eurosport.

Loved all the action.
This was the best round of the serie so far, and the change of the format for Quali 2 really boosted the show, with more racing action through the two days.
The Big Final was a little bit difficult for visibility, as the track dried up after yesterday's rain and the dust started to kick off.
Monumental crash for Mclaren, but still they managed to get into the Final at debut, great work!
Kristofferson is a beast
I want a round every week!

I'm not sure if I preferred the track this year to last year's. I guess given how things went last year, I was looking forward to seeing how the racing would have looked on the "old" circuit without the dust issues. It'll be interesting to see if other circuits this year are also different from those of last year - Sardinia's didn't really work for me, so I hope they'll shake that one up a bit.

Oh no! We saw him lying down next to the pit lane, but didn't think anything more of it. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery - I wonder what happened?
#34
Posted 20 February 2022 - 20:22
Bad landing jumping out of the car, presumably.
#35
Posted 20 February 2022 - 21:05
I seem to remember he went very fast in the downhill just before the finish, and the car bounced pretty hard at the bottom of the hill.
Might be the reason, probably some back/neck injury after the compression.
Hopefully nothing too serious!
Two drivers in Hospital after the first event, and three big rolls!
Extreme E is no joke!
Podium for this first race of the season.

Great racing.... big improvement with Q2 in that format, although it made the semis look a bit odd having only 3 cars. Great stuff from the Mclaren duo, shame about the crash. Looks like rxr really bogged down on something and slowed massively in the middle of that cloud of sand, not much more than bad luck RxR lucky not to get more serious damage.
On a big plus point I don't think we saw any of those suspension failures that plagued the cars last year

I am burned out by too much Saudi desert shenanigans so I just watched the highlights. Looked cool. Wanted Sanz and Sainz to win but eh, happy for Mikaela AK specifically and my main dude/dudette at X44 are still raking up those qualy points so all good.
Will definitely join the fun next round at Sardinia in May.
And Cheers for the great coverage here G23 and y'all!

First blood to Ganassi in this week's Sardinian double-header...
https://www.autospor...nalty/10334417/
The TV guides were saying this would be on ITV this afternoon but an email from my mother suggests it wasn't due to ongoing fascination with the UK's car crash of a government - I don't know; I was at work and then meeting some ex-BA colleagues in the pub...

I think a 30-second penalty was quite fair.

I'd entirely missed that the race was on. A big shunt for Sainz, and I'm glad he's okay; Kristofferson was far too aggressive there.
Will catch the action tomorrow. Having a double header in Sardinia was a mistake: the action was pretty mediocre there last year, and it's not looking any better this year.

Should have been benched! Who in their right minds decided that there were two allowable circuits? The highlights are quite an adventure: https://youtu.be/uB0nOGZcgKY

We're live for the main broadcast. I'm frustrated about how this year has played out: I was hoping the series would really build on the momentum it was building last year, but it feels like things have gone quiet, even though the actual racing product is better than ever. Put simply, we need more events: they are too infrequent at the moment, which makes it easy to miss.
Edit: Wow, Kristofferson really isn't remorseful at all about that crash.

...Put simply, we need more events: they are too infrequent at the moment, which makes it easy to miss...
Whilst I understand the sentiment, there is surely a limit on the number of events imposed by the environmental ethos of the series? We could maybe have one or two - literally one or two - more than now, but above that is too many.
Twenty Grands Prix and thirty-odd NASCAR races is also too many but those series haven't adopted the same environmental responsibilities...yet.

Posted 10 July 2022 - 11:50
You make a very fair point. I do wonder if they could squeeze in a few more events by, for example, pairing the Sardinia event with another Mediterranean event. There are some big geographical gaps between the events this year.

Caught up yesterday. Great racing overall, and a fun event. I was happy to see Loeb and Gutierrez take a win after a fair bit of bad luck in prior events.
The non-existent promotion for this series is a huge problem though. The product is great, but that won't matter if nobody is watching. The fact only a few of us on this forum are commenting on these events is pretty damning, especially given the eminent interest in electric vehicle racing seen in the Formula E threads.

I hadn't watched one of these for a while, so I watched that recent one. I enjoy the concept, but having races where nobody knows who the winner is due to so many penalties being applied isn't great.

Ahh...Punta del este...some great memories there from Formula E...
Fun qualification heats yesterday, with some touches & crashes too.
Al-attyah is driving quite on the limit lately, he took out Kristofferson yesterday.
