I'm not a fan of Tom Clarkson as an interviewer at all. I wish he'd just shut up and let people speak. I do listen to some of the episodes if the guest is good, but by and large I'm not keen.
Ugh the amount of times he interrupts guests as they get on a roll to interject with a “hh have to stop you there, really?”
“Yeah.”
“And how many shoes could you fit in a shoebox”
And we never get back to the interesting point they were making

They didn't make the connection explicit but the thing about the Senna story is that Williams obviously couldn't get a revised opinion from Senna when the time came to try and sign Frentzen.
Two of the interviewees also independently mentioned Frentzen's manager, who had looked after Keke Rosberg when he was with Williams and clearly had a good relationship with Head and Williams.
Thought it was fascinating on Frentzen va Schumacher, that always gets trotted out, was the point that by the end of the year Schumacher was miles ahead and anyone at Mercedes would say, but that rep basically carried frentzen into Williams

In those early PR stakes the dynamic was more Corrina vs.Tanja but yeah.

The Michelin attempt to cheat in the latest podcast is very odd. What were they playing at. For all the crap that comes Bridgestone/Ferrari's way for the 2003 protest it really does bring to light that Michelin were trying very sneaky.

Also just found out Toby Moody has been replaced full time by Matt Beer in the MotoGP podcast. Not sure how I feel about that.

Interesting to hear Heidfeld say he found Webber the toughest guy over a lap. In races he was fine but he just couldn't find the same 1 lap pace.

One more episode coming - a full, open to all eras Q&A which should be good. Hopefully will be up tomorrow as usual but I'm not sure given it's a bonus episode.

I think the open all eras podcast is in a few weeks. It’s for charity, so you request your question via a note on your donation toward Blood Cancer UK charity

I hope they air the following:
Suzuka 2000 - Schumacher's 1st WDC for the Scuderia
Spa 1998 - The 1st lap demise and Schumacher's clash with DC
Sepang 2003 - Kimi's first win
Austria 2002 - The infamous team orders
Spa 2000 - The overtake
Monaco 2005 - BAR's ban
Brazil 2004 - JPM's final win for Williams

I want to see stuff about those new teams in the late 90s and early 2000s - Stewart, Prost, Jaguar etc. Maybe the downfall of Tyrrell too, where Ken walked out on the eve of the 1998 season because BAT insisted on Ricardo Rosset over Jos Verstappen. That 1998 Tyrrell was pretty quick in flashes, with Verstappen I reckon they’d have scored points with it, so Ken was probably fully justified. Tyrrell nosedived from being credible midfielders through the early and mid 90s to backmarkers so quickly.

It’s the charity ‘ask anything’ episode to wrap up this series. Looking forward to listening to it while I’m out and about in the car today

Redbull Racing launch season and some interesting insight into their purchase of Jaguar and Minardi and how they grew the teams.
I always prefer these topic episodes over individual race ones - but they are all excellent regardless.

Weird question but did they ever have a listener Q&A episode where they covered their favorite engine sounds of the era? Glenn referenced that in some episode but I think I've listened to all of the Q&A episodes and never heard that. Maybe just missed it.

May have been a members only episode. You can ask Glenn on Twitter.

it’s mental that was 23 years ago. Feels like almost yesterday… Button debut, I remember the shootouts at Williams and him being so hyped. The Jaguar team debut… loved the green liveries. That awful puke coloured minardi…
23 years… wow

I had a quick look at the broadcast of the start and had missed that Murray also compares it briefly to the start at Indianapolis in 1964.

It’s the long awaited Spa 98 episode today… Thursdays drive to work is always enhanced when a BBV10s pod appears at the top of my feed
The very lovely and seemingly universally liked Louise Goodman’s comments and opinions on Ralf behaviour were very interesting.
Clearly not a lot of love lost between Gary Anderson and Mike Gascoyne (who wasn’t even mentioned by name) either!
Great episode of a fabulous podcast.
Regards Mike

That is the great part about these pods, the little details, and it is up to the people running them to be forthright in their questions all too often they are a bit soft!!

Very much enjoyed that one, got me to go back and watch some of the highlights of 1993 like the Cleveland duel between Emerson and Nigel.

I did try the 98 one but got a little fed up with the endless reading of Autosport articles, I would prefer to listen to people talking and passing on their recollections, rather than sort of rehashing press from 40 years ago, You have guests, use them more please. I suppose they have to cater for all listeners.

The Christmas quiz was fun too, I drew a blank on a lot of the driver-related questions but at least correctly identified all of the onboard engine sounds, was off by a couple years with the Renault but otherwise spot on.

Alex Zanardi 1999 episode out today…
This was a good one. Lots of insight from the ex-Williams guest, and steel brakes only got a passing mention!
