Sutton Bank , 7 miles east of home,  is the eastern escarpment of the North York Moors and the A170's ascent  is still a challenging climb for many drivers.** I knew from Julian Hunt's excellent Motorsport Explorer that it had held  hillclimbs and this week's Darlington and Stockton Time has a half page illustrated retrospective .

Before I consign it to the recycling bin , if any student of UK hillclimb history would like the original copy please message me and I will post it to you FOC

** but if I  admitted the speed I once hit on the final straight in my Caterham R400 I'd be locked up .

Well that's interesting, I made a detour on my trip on Thursday to have another look at Sutton Bank, driving down I wondered whether it had ever been used as a hillclimb....

Years ago I drove up it thinking "I could easily climb this towing a caravan" which is, of course, banned. The fact that I was following a tractor towing a trailer didn't really put me in a good mood.

In a typical  summer week , blockages are a near daily occurrence . I encountered my last one, an expired Fiesta , the last time I went , a week ago . I'd pay big money to see a Gould tackle it .

Just found the thread, this may be of interest ? -  http://www.vintageno...-of-man-tt.html A tarmac surface was laid later, the paddock/parking can be seen at the foot of the hill just after the start which is the 5mls. stone(Thirsk)
