Huge for Mclaren, but now easily the worst looking car on the grid. By a landslide.

The wheel covers are slick, but the logo is a bit trash, imo. Prime placement though, and a curious lack of BAT branding in that photo.

McLaren Racing today announced a major multi-year partnership with Google, as a new Official Partner of the McLaren Formula 1 Team and the McLaren MX Extreme E Team from 2022.
The partnership will bring the best of Google products to McLaren to provide a more seamless technology experience across devices. Throughout the season, McLaren will use 5G-enabled Android devices and Chrome browser across its operations during practice sessions, qualifying and races to support the drivers and team, with the goal of improving on-track performance.
Android and Chrome branding will be carried on the engine cover and wheel covers of the MCL36 Formula 1 race cars, and on the helmets and race suits of McLaren Formula 1 drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo from the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Meanwhile, Google branding will also be visible on the Number 58 McLaren MX Extreme E race car, and on the race suits of McLaren MX Extreme E drivers Emma Gilmour and Tanner Foust from the 2022 Island X Prix.
Zak Brown, CEO, McLaren Racing, said: “We are absolutely delighted and proud to welcome Google to the McLaren Racing family. Google is a global leader in technology and has been a ground-breaking innovator in connecting people around the world. By integrating platforms like Android and Chrome across our operations, our team will be better supported to focus on driving performance. We’re looking forward to an exciting partnership that spans across Formula 1 and Extreme E.
Nicholas Drake, VP of Marketing, Google, said: "McLaren Racing represents the very best of what's possible on a racetrack across performance, inclusion and sustainability, and those are values we share at Google. We’re bringing more innovation to platforms, like Android and Chrome, and seamlessly connecting them to other Google services to optimize McLaren's race day performance."

Any new partnership they announce BAT is never in it, has been the case since the start.

Yep, bad as it is, that logo would look 100x worse against blue. Would be better against the orange though, imo.Now we know why the livery was tweaked maybe :-)

A few years ago people on this thread were complaining about there not being enough logos. Now they’re complaining about what the logos are. Could be worse, think BWT Alpine…

It could be worse, but honestly... I don't care as along as it's quick. It'll become beautiful then lol.
Great news on Google tho!

I don’t think it looks cheap and ugly at all, it’s a contemporary design, incorporating nods to historic colours and full of premium brands.

Premium brands?
Which of those brands are not premium? I don't know them all, but Google, Hilton Hotels, Richard Mille, Gulf and Webex surely are premium.

Congrats to McLaren. Will be interesting to see the financial details behind the deal. McLaren has been successful at securing new sponsorships, but those have generally been partnerships with limited monetary value to McLaren.

Zak must be selling the space cheap it's not mormal. I know they are desperate for cash, having to sell and rent back their own factory.
Yeah they're basically Marussia but with a car brand attached
#43

That android logo is absolutely hideous, but whatever more cash for McLaren.
Which of those brands are not premium? I don't know them all, but Google, Hilton Hotels, Richard Mille, Gulf and Webex surely are premium.
Google isn't really premium in terms of being an upmarket brand, but it is in the way of being a big credible corporation that can encourage others to be involved.

Massive deal, well played Zak! So much for people complaining McLaren lacking a big sponsor. Knocked it out of the park on this one. As for the livery it always looks worse in photos, on track the car looked pretty nice imo.

What people miss is that it is surely better to bring in £100 million like this from a portfolio of sponsors than having one big title sponsor dominate. It makes your income much less dependent on the whims of one boardroom.

Yup, just like with an investment portfolio it's best to diversify.

Sure, across a dozen or so sponsors. Meanwhile RB’s Oracle deal is worth nearly as much as all of those combined. That’s what I wanted to reference. McLaren went for quantity here.
There’s no right or wrong way. Sponsor interest is directly correlated to performance so both methods are fine as long as you perform.
