I don't think The Race should be dropped at all. But ratings are always subjective, no matter who gives them.

crash.net, F1i.com and Planet F1 also do ratings if you wanted to expand the average ratings for next year, although obviously that would require more work so don't feel obligated to do it.

I think Auto Sprint (Italian magazine) also does ratings. Auto Hebdo (French didn't do that in the past, I used to read that every week but stopped since +- 5 years), maybe they do it now. It would be nice to add French & Italian ratings.

PS: it would indeed require more work so understand if it's too much, like F1Frog mentioned

I don't think The Race's ratings are that terrible for this race. The Merc drivers are rated a bit low compared to the Red Bull and Ferrari drivers but too much against the rest of the field. Feel like the problem is more the general overrating of the top cars than anything there. The only obviously ridiculous rating at first glance to me is Ocon and Alonso.

I really want to sit down with Edd Straw and hear him explain how the hell Leclerc can be given a better rating than Verstappen. For how sophisticated and well-reasearced his rating system supposedly is, he rarely bothers to give anything but a very surface level explanation of anyone's race.

It is a bit to British now. Some French, Italian and Spanish ratings would provide a more balanced and objective picture.

Edit:I just noticed that William Hunt suggested this too. More variation would be a good thing

Hi all,

Here's the final 2022 F1 media ratings table after Abu Dhabi:

F1-driver-ratings-table-post-Abu-Dhabi.p

I will do another post in the next few days with a deeper dive into the season's ratings, but didn't want to keep you waiting for the final order! A quick summary for now:

  • Fittingly, the highest scorers from Abu Dhabi were the top two in this year's world championship and media rankings: Verstappen signed off a stellar campaign with another display of routine excellence, while Leclerc extracted the absolute maximum from the slower Ferrari to make the difference and beat Perez to P2 in the points standings. The judges found little to choose between them in terms of their execution this week, but Charles's feat against the run of recent form was enough to earn him the top rating of 9.83 (and his personal best of the season), just ahead of Max on 9.67. Props also to Norris who bagged 9s from all three publications for another accomplished showing.
  • Hamilton and Alonso were both given middling scores, but Lewis's slightly better average (6.83 vs 6.00) was just enough to move him back ahead of his old rival into 4th place in the season's rankings by the slimmest of margins (7.65 to 7.64). Mercedes team-mate Russell holds on to 3rd to cap an impressive first year in the spotlight.
  • On his emotional farewell weekend, Vettel bowed out of F1 with a fully committed performance and a creditable 8.33 score; coupled with a mediocre weekend for Bottas, that promotes Seb to 10th place in the final media standings. Albon also leapfrogs Bottas to complete the midfield shake-up.
  • Tsunoda takes 17th overall from Schumacher thanks to a big swing between them in Abu Dhabi: a solid weekend from Yuki yielded a 7.00 average, while a clumsy error from Mick consigned him to this week's lowest score along with his victim Latifi and his Haas stablemate Magnussen (4.17).

More analysis to follow in a few days when I've had a bit more time...  :stoned:

Alex

You can clearly see when Perez lost 2nd place in the WDC. A run of 8 races with a single 7+ result from Canada untill his win in Singapore.

It must be all the Athletic Greens that he uses.

2022 Sky Sports UK Formula 1 driver ratings:

“Taking into account every qualifying and every race.”

1. Max Verstappen: 10 (few sloppy weekends that could justify 9,5 but it is hard not to give a 10 in 15-wins season)
2. George Russell: 9.5 (bit too high for often being slower than Hamilton in races as the season went on, but overall great showing, 9 would be fair)
3. Lando Norris: 9.5 (also a bit high IMO, Ricci's struggles flatter him a bit but still consistently very good, a 9 sounds about right)
4. Charles Leclerc: 9 (some mistakes but usually very very fast, a fair 9)
5. Lewis Hamilton: 8.5 (sluggish start of the season by his standards but great later on, maybe a 9)
6. Fernando Alonso: 8 (low IMO, probably not at his best any more but still great, 8,5 or even 9)
7. Esteban Ocon: 8 (good but beaten by a senior citizen, so a fair rating)
8. Sergio Perez: 7.5 (fair, some excellent weekends but mostly too far off Max)
9. Carlos Sainz: 7.5 (fair, some excellent weekends but too many crashes for being an experienced driver)
10. Valtteri Bottas: 7.5 (probably fair, hard to quantify how good was Alfa but he scored most of their points)
11. Sebastian Vettel: 7.5 (tad too low probably, 8 sounds more fair)
12. Kevin Magnussen: 7.5 (some great showings, but was outraced by Mick more often than some are willing to admit, made some silly contacts, 7 or 7,5)
13. Alex Albon: 7.5 (hard one, Latifi seemed completely lost so that has flattered Albon somewhat, but still seemed good so probably a fair rating)
14. Pierre Gasly: 6.5 (seems to have underperfomed, beaten by Haas in WCC, so a fair rating I guess)
15. Yuki Tsunoda: 6 (like Gasly, this season seems to have been worse than the 2021, so a fair 6)
16. Mick Schumacher: 6 (weak start of the season, some big crashes, improved substantially as the season went on, 6,5 for the season as a whole is probably fair)
17. Zhou Guanyu: 6 (massively outscored by Bottas but seemed to have some pace, a fair 6 probably)
18. Lance Stroll: 5.5 (had a few very good showings but ruined the season by bonehead crashes so 5,5 seems fair)
19. Daniel Ricciardo: 5 (few flashes of former brilliance but being demolished so badly overall warrants a 5)
20. Nicholas Latifi: 5 (bar one or two weekends seemed completely lost, often finishing 30+s behind everyone, even 4-4,5 wouldn't be unfair)

Surprisingly fair ratings IMO and very close to what I would say, my comments and opinions in bold.
