The official timetable for the first ever #MiamiGP reveals there will be both a drivers' parade and, in a first, a team principals' parade before the race begins.

I will be interested to try and work out who are the TP friends. As suggested in the comments to that post, I do mourn the fact that we have missed the time where Ron Dennis would have had to join in.

Guenter will probably be the star given DTS

@keithcollantine
I always thought the drivers parade was a naff, perfunctory gesture. Now it has a less interesting spin-off.
Posted 30 March 2022 - 09:38
I’m glad they are adding to it.
I'm not, a pointless waste of track time that should be filled with a motor race.
Once upon a time they had a team principals' race, in equal Ford Escort Mexicos. Now THAT I would like to see again. Toto and Christian taking each other off and getting into a track-side altercation. Netflix would love that!
Posted 30 March 2022 - 09:41
I am also in favour of a team principals race. And a pro-am celebrity race while they're at it.
Posted 30 March 2022 - 09:47
I would guess that the majority of people there would have no idea who most of them were, to be honest. They have been pushed as 'celebrities' pretty hard over the last 5-10 years or so, a bit like a football manager, which I guess they are to some extent.
Would I like to see them at a GP? Hmm - I guess so. Do I go there to see them? Nah. It's a bit of a 'meh' from me.
What I would rather is if they paraded the winning driver (or top 3) around after the podium ceremony. I think that would actually add quite a lot for fans. They could even do the post-race interviews on there to save time. I know that some tracks open up after the finish, but they could keep it closed for an extra 10-15 mins or so.

I'd love to see drivers and engineers switch position. Would be hilarious if Max told GP to keep his head down and focus on driving.I'm not, a pointless waste of track time that should be filled with a motor race.

Between this, Will Smith vs Chris Rock, and the just launched Dyson Air-Purifying Headphones - you'd definitely be forgiven thinking April Fools Day has come early this year.I'm not falling for such an obvious April fools joke.

Random TP and Driver draw. If you draw someone in your orbit, ie Horner can't race with a RB or AT driver, you pull again.

Another one to add to F1's list of initiatives no one, nowhere asked for.

I think the MiamiGP will be very much the DTS crowd and the TP parade will be more popular than we think. It won't be the highlight of the weekend(please Dear Lord in Heaven don't let the TP Parade be the most exciting part of the weekend...) but people will get a kick out of it.
Posted 30 March 2022 - 12:57
I really hope people are voting for Guenther Steiner because he is funny and not because people think he is the best team principle... he is by far the worst, proceeding over both the Rich Energy and Uralkali debacles and if he had gone into this year with the driver line up he planned Haas would of still not scored points with what is possibly the fourth fastest car. Magnussen is making him look like the hero that he most certainly isn't.
Posted 30 March 2022 - 13:04
Hell no. What an utterly, utterly stupid idea. Netflix has a lot to answer for!

Actually unbelievable they do so little fun events. I also remember Kimi on a lawnmower against the Sky crew once.
This would attract so many viewers. Slap some sponsors on it, et viola.

Yeah, I'd rather have grid girls, thanks
Posted 30 March 2022 - 13:27
Don't really care either way, but my favourite team principle is unquestionably Mike Krack. Purely for his fantastic name. May have snorted when Crofty said in commentary something along the lines of "as we see Mike Krack on the pit wall" during the race.
But seriously, who on earth told him it was a good idea to be known as just "Mike" rather than Michael?!

LOL at the opposition to this. Clearly it's a byproduct of the Netflix effect, but so what? It's not like this parade will take the place of a support race or something, it's just an event for the spectators and I think it'd be kinda funny to see all of these bigwig millionaires with extremely busy day to days standing around on a flatbed waving at the fans. Seems like a fun thing, no harm done.

There is a general feeling with F1 that some things are 'a bit too much fun' or a 'bit silly'...as if F1 is above things and should only be a serious event of highly-scientific racing. I think it's permeated in to the fans down the years, I'm partially guilty of it too.
They tried some karting event for charity at Monza a few years back, didn't they? But it was 1v1 from what I remember. You'd never have the F1 grid doing a race in a tintop or something like that. They had a great opportunity to try reverse-grids or something daft during the COVID craziness, cancelled races, sprint races etc...but opted against it.
I don't want F1 too gimmicky but it is a bit too serious sometimes.

Been there, done that. The ex-Mrs Hakinnen staring impassively at the camera for what seemed like hours on end. Many, many shots of Nicole Scherrrrrrrrrzer (?) and now we have Max's squeeze to admire at length.

I wonder how the fans of today would react to the "boat" races the team mechanics used to do in the rowing basin behind the pits in Montreal?
Posted 30 March 2022 - 16:50
The Montreal boat races were not part of the official programme and not for the fans.
This TP parade is a committee's idea of how to make the show more 'entertaining' without spending any money.

Brabham, Surtees, Chapman, Tyrrell, Williams, Mosley...plus Alan Rees and Tim Parnell, both bona fide F1 drivers...quite a decent line-up.
Posted 30 March 2022 - 19:11
I absolutely love this idea even though I won't get to see any of it. I suppose all of you who are shouting "Netflix!" were also reaching for your barf bags when Alonso threw his gloves up into the stands in Montreal years ago and started interacting with the fans. Apart from the racing, F1 has always been about characters and anything F1 does to make it easier for people to get familiar with those characters without compromising their authenticity (yes, DtS is guilty of this at times) is good for the sport and thus good with me.
In the same vein, definitely agree that this parade should be a prelude to a race between them all in the same car. I vote MX-5's.

What is the appeal? I can understand an effort to bring the drivers closer to adoring fans and all that, but what good can come of parading a group of unfamiliar, middle-aged, balding, grumpy men with beer bellies? I doubt any of these business guys are heroes to fans..
