I’d forgotten this from last year. Showman boxing style intro delivered right into Perez’s face and the world’s most awkward pause.

Nanny state regulations.  The tyre pressure rule is solely and totally to protect Pirelli, not the drivers or cars.  These are supposed to be the top teams in the sport, but they aren't allowed to chose their own tyre pressures.  Which any club level competitor is at liberty to do, with very little downside.

I suppose back in the days before there was a mandatory supply if a tyre company didn't like how you were setting their products up, they could just decide not to sell you tyres? Or give you rock hard ones I guess.

and in reaction to that...

Peter Windsor's take on Lost Wages and everything else.

It's a good one.

Cheers.  I’ve always liked ol’ Pete.  The thing about Vegas and ticket sales is it’s Liberty on the hook for the dough not a promoter.  And most importantly for the event the resorts need people there.  That’s why they were allowed to use the Strip in the first place.  Not sure Pete recognizes the dynamic here is different from other races.

That said Sat will be called a sellout as the race day grandstand seats have been sold.  Several thousand of the less desirable ones were sold under price reductions not advertised and the Lewis deal.  The GA such as it is won’t sell the allotted capacity in some sections but for Sat they should be plenty full.   Fri won't be as good overall and Thurs will be a ghost town relatively speaking.  Last night I saw Thurs tix, top row middle of the Sphere turn complex (best seats on the track AFAIC)  $167 each.  It would be too rushed to get there.  I’m doing a high end private event that day and won’t get out until 5.  It’s about putting a different sticker on a papaya or something.  Or maybe it was a mango.

Room prices have crept back up so it’s not the fire sale we saw pre race last year.  Perhaps indicative of 140-160k over Fri-Sat nights.  Likely 40-50k of that is football.  Even though they suck people still come.   Shows that normally do well are down in the 25-30% range.  Many 50% off sales.  They’re hoping for big afternoon walkup.  Likely most attendees have already blown their wad on the race and won’t or can't afford to go to a show discount or not.  Downtown is getting hammered.  May not be happy again this year.

I have been in and around motorsport for far too many years and I have NEVER heard of a tyre supplier specifying pressures and getting them ENFORCED by regulations.  Tyres fail all the time in racing and rallying and nobody thinks the Michelin or Dunlop or whoever were at fault.  So yes, nanny state over-regulation.

Nascar has at times.  Camber too.  I hear you on all that “nanny state” safety stuff, helmets, fire suit, HANS, runoff, catch fence…

9.9 is between 9 and 10, but a little more towards 10. fifi will need binoculars to see my station. fwiw, we were scheduled to have 3 people at that station, but one appears to be a no-show. We will see what happens.

I hope fifi has a great time.

Bellagio Club finally sells out.  It’s a shade smaller but I hear same capacity as last year.

https://www.reviewjo...nd Prix weekend

Full court press on promotion to move the tix that are left.  Some below face value resale on Ticketmaster direct for race day in the main grandstand.  A fair amount on the short chute into Sphere turn complex, hardly any in the complex.  Thurs pretty much anywhere, a few good deals.  GA on Sat now almost sold out from F1,  some of 1 zone left.  Some face value on resale.  Looks to be around mid 90k on Sat with a sellout but likely a thousand or better empty seats around the track of they don’t sell between now and then.  It will look packed.  The other higher end hospitality areas are not doing well.  Similar to last year but fewer of them.  Unless it’s Paddock Club, Bellagio or Wynn on the main straight it's not the place to be.  My guess is next year (like some from last year) will be turned into unreserved grandstands, no catering.

Over the last day or so some stupid cheap rooms.  Looks like they waited until Tue to fire sale them and weren’t too bad before.  At Oyo $20/ night over the weekend.  Even at mid and down market MGM properties, $40 MGM Grand on Thurs, $150 Fri and only $300 Sat (which would be about normal for a busy weekend).  Strip has been fairly empty of people but packed with detoured traffic since last weekend.  Still some cheap(ish) flights.  With that combo the last of the Sat resale tix could go in the next day or two.

I always love to see Donald Fagen sing, because his voice is really like a painting of his mouth. In this song less than in ‘The Nightfly’, but still to be witnessed.

Getting bussed to our stations is taking insanely long. Track was blocked due to entertainment rehearsals on the front straight.

That's kind of a metaphor for the whole event, right?

How was your training in the arctic to get accustomed to these temperatures?

In all seriousness; have a blast!

:rotfl:  :rotfl:   No doubt.

This year though isn’t like last year though.   The Boys to Men national anthem soundcheck was supposed to be today along with some of the normal Vegas stuff.  Cirque, Blue Man, showgirls, that sort of thing.  Gone is the gigantic opening and the elevator pods from last year.

Cool to know.

Anyway, we might have two world champions in a few hours, with WRC power stage taking place just before the F1 race
