E bikes are made by very strange manufacturers, with little to no history some of them or incentive to produce high quality things.

Indeed.  Not like electric cars then....

Envoy Technologies

Hyliion

Ztractor

ChargePoint

Lucid Motors

Revel

WeaveGrid

Volta Charging

Hyzon Motors

Zoox

APTIV

Arrival

Like in the PC computer industry, most of these bikes will be based on a reference design. Somebody who knows what they are doing creates an original design which is passed on via major component manufacturers to assemblers. The assembler can choose how closely they stick to the reference design.

If the manufacturer sticks to the reference design closely, the product should be OK. With a few caveats. The manufacturer may knowingly or not use some counterfeit components which affect reliability or performance. Incorporating components relating to power charging or delivery is more worrying than a ripped off speedo gauge.

Considering China leads the world in EV sales, I doubt they will be lagging the rest of the world in 2040.

(India and Africa will be part of China by 2040.)

If that were to come to pass, no one will need either ICE or EV's. Bows, arrows and large rocks, on the other hand, might come in quite handy.

Fair enough. We can start with this obvious fact: By far the great majority of people who were in contact with Epstein on a regular basis had no inkling of his criminal activities. That's how he was able to operate as he did for so long, and how Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, and so many others have been able to do the same. Today, you have a far greater understanding of Epstein's activities than most of his friends and associates ever did.

Nice story, but "obvious facts" with no support are called opinions. You don't know who he was regularly in contact with nor what they knew. One may not know exactly what an acquaintance is up to, but don't be so naive as to think anyone went to that island and was put off by the notion of what was going on.

If you believe what's been said since, Weinstein and Cosby's proclivities were an open secret throughout Hollywood. Cosby was brought down by a Hannibal Buress stand-up comedy bit from 2014. He was not exposed because anyone on the inside ratted him out. Many people knew he was a (mostly former?) rapist, but no one was ready to say damned thing until a comedian started making jokes and actually challenged conventional wisdom. Don't discount the effectiveness of the diffusion of responsibility.

We have a greater understanding of Epstein's business, but we don't. All we know was that he as a complete creep and likely a guy who was being used in conjunction with someone/thing else in some sort capacity to influence the actions of governmental and corporate elite. Even that is conjecture. For every item that we know, there are probably 10 things we don't.

There's a US company which has a cool little Ebike line. They look a little like motocross bikes and cost ~$3500+. I just bought one off Alibaba for ~$1000 last week delivered.

I might charge it the first couple times in a sand pit in the back yard, but it's a little silly to pay a US marketing company 3x to buy literally the exact same bike.

Stark Varg, full-on electric MX bike. Might save the sport in Europe where the NIMBYs have especially nearly killed it.

No, we absolutely do know that most of the people who associated with Epstein were not engaged in his daily personal life and did not know the extent of his activities wiith underage women. That is a matter of public record. That's how he got away with it for so long. You can say people should have known or paid more attention and that's fair enough.

This is an old, old story with all kinds of crime. Bernie Madoff.

That's not what I said. I said, "...anyone who went to that island... ." Epstein was in every social circle he could find, so there were bound to be many, many people who had no idea of the more sordid portions of the affair.

Here's a weird thing about Epstein. They say he was worth a hundred million dollars or so. That makes him the poor guy in those crowds. That's commonplace, if not a little light, among *my* clients, who are relatively normal 'businessmen.' The numbers don't add up. That is not, "I own my own private island and PBJ" money. It's "I drive my Porsche Cup car at the Country Club" money.
