Trawling through my archives I came across a photo taken in 1968 whilst I was on secondment for a few weeks to the Belfast office of the Birmingham-based company I worked for at the time. This was before I started keeping proper records but I did record that it was taken on 23/11/68 at a Mid-Antrim Slalom at Clinty Quarry. I have no programme from the meeting but I believe the pic. shows Ronnie McCartney in the ex-works Paddy Hopkirk 1967 Acropolis-winning Cooper S reg. no. LRX830E which I believe Ronnie bought from BL presumably end 1967/early 1968.

As this is of historical interest to me (the only motorsport pic. I took in N.I.) I am keen to get more info on both the history of Clinty Quarry as a motorsport venue and about McCartney's time as custodian of this car (which I believe does still exist).

I have never come across Clinty Quarry as a venue but perhaps its use predated my interest in the sport.  It doesn't look very promising as a venue today!

McCartney used LRX830E on the 1968 Circuit of Ireland but retired. He was using a Cooper S in 1969 and early 1970 - presumably LRX although he had another S before that - before swapping to an Escort Twin-Cam in mid 1970.
