I am pretty sure I did get the two SLR Coupes the wrong way round.  Rudi Uhlenhaut's favoured car was 'blue', the second car 'red'.  Here's 'red' - of fond personal memory - on the 2010 Mille Miglia Retro.

Driving that really must  have been quite some experience.

Incidentally I am sure I speak for many saying how much we still miss the quite splendid  Doug/Weg DVDs coming through the letterbox every 3 months with magnificent  previously unseen footage of 'Motorfilms Quarterly '  90 mins of pure joy on history of 100 plus years  of motoring and motorsport usually with wonderfully clear imagery. Something nobody else is doing .

Thank you.  Poor Weg has not been very well in recent years, largely robbed of the physical ability to edit movie rapidly, hence the end of 'MFQ'.  It's so nice to hear that fellow enthusiasts have enjoyed his splendid work, in video, film, photography and of course his ERA history.

I'd have a side-interest in knowing by what margin it became the 'world's most expensive car'...

I think the publicity of this fact, and the lingering general belief that will go on for a long time with the publicity's effectiveness, was a strong motivating force.

Ray, for interest details of most expensive auction cars:

I went to the Concours on Saville Row today and a couple of the guys involved in the sale of the Uhlenhaut car were interviewed on stage (one from RM, I didn't hear where the other one was from).  They didn't give any clues as to the new owner of the car but did state that it is part of the deal that it will be displayed in future.  They said they are trying to get it into the Uffizi Gallery(!) for a time.  Connected with that, they stated that is the sixth highest price for an "art work" ever sold.  A quick check on the ever reliable(!) Wikipedia suggests that's not quite true but not so very far off either.

I thought the owner had been widely reported as Sir Jim Ratcliffe?

Roger Lund has sent me this link to Tony Dron’s article on the car in the Daily Telegraph. It won’t open for me as I’m not a Telegraph subscriber, but might work for others:

There's a trick, naughty but nice. The moment you see a story loading, turn off the internet connection before the site realises you're not a subscriber.

After all  , why should any journalist expect people actually to pay for the publication in which their work appears?
