Oh poor Simon - and his family - and many, many friends...  Most sincere condolences to all his people.  Simon produced the map rolls for me when Stirling Moss funded a small run of replica Jenks Mille Miglia '55 roller-map boxes under the title '722'.  Greater enthusiasm had no man.  Truly shocking news.

I am dismayed. ):

I first knew Simon when he was a little nipper in the back of his father's Humber 9/20. A tragic loss to the family and to the wider historic car community.

There is a handful of drivers at Goodwood who you know are about to arrive in the admin office before they actually come through the door, Simon was one of them.

He will be sorely missed. Condolences to his family and friends at this time.

Was it this incident I wonder? sad news, I have watched him many a time in that rather lovely gold Lotus 20

Yes - when I first heard of that incident I immediately feared for the VSCC/BOC fraternity, but then wondered if it might instead have involved one of those ghastly modern supercars which are heir to the old name...but, it did not...

His brother James - two years his junior - passed away 15 years ago. See here.

Oh no! I am so, so sorry. We had a few mid-pack contests over the years and very seldom have I been as comfortable trading places back and forth. A sunny disposition, ready smile, and unabashed enjoyment of being in the moment. Simon was such a pleasure. I just do not want to believe this happened to him. Condolences to family and his many friends.

Somehow, I seem to have missed this when it was first posted, I have just dicovered the awful news on opening my HLR magazine. Simon was a real enthusiast. I had some dealings with him about the Veedol Lotus FJ that he was restoring and he went to great lengths to find information about the car so that he could put it back exactly how it had been. A thoroughly good egg and he will be hugely missed by all.
