Lol, will the controversies ever end?

Is he actually touching it though. Sure looks like it, admittedly. Wonder what the FIA will do.

I would say that the pic is so low quality it is impossible to see if Lewis ‘hand is in front or to the rear of anything. What could/appears to be the thumb holding the wing could be digital leakage of color.

Apart from that: if I would be anyone in F1 I would walk past cars of other teams as if they were highly contagious. Not that close, Lewis!

PS: I’m sure it is not his thumb. It is a vertical slot in the rear wing. Look to the right. There is a lighter spot just as the one that tries to impersonate Lewis his thumb.

It is a very awkwardly angled photo where Hamilton can just as easily be walking behind the car and the railing. Really you need some other angle - like say a rear view facing camera on the car. But I bet those would have long been turned off by that point.

There's a video which shows he's just squeezing past.

Quite.  But there is a bigger question though:

If the car was still in parc ferme conditions, why haven't the fia got some kind of controls in place on who has access to the cars?  When verstappen/Vettel have done it they'd literally just hopped out of the driver's seat, here Hamilton has been and changed and can still get close to the cars.

Haha!  On first look a the photo I thought he's just squeezing between the rear of the car and the barrier....then in the Austosport article it goes on to mention there is video footage where he appears to be doing his best to avoid touching it....  I guess that will show whether he stopped for a good peak and fumble, or if he was just using it for balance whilst mmoving between car and barrier.  :D  Like all incidents in here, we need a full freeze frame of each split second.

Angela appears to be in-front of the red fence, so I assume Lewis is also.

But who can tell...............

The video from which the still is taken quite clearly shows that he's not touching the RB. Autosport should be ashamed of themselves casting unwarranted aspersions. Flame bait, just as Sky are doing with that Any Driven Monday bullshit.

The railing is behind him, you can see his trousers are occluding the railing, and are not occluded by it.

Funny though

He is clearly not touching the car, but he is not allowed to be there.

60.1 Only those officials charged with supervision may enter the parc fermé.

Don't know how the whole setup is, so maybe for Hamilton  to go thru parce ferme is the only way to get where he is going.

It always amuses me when the drivers inspect the cars close up, as if they're going to learn some vital information that the team of engineers pouring over 1000s of high resolution images and videos from every conceivable angle would have missed.

Having said that, if the FIA don't want anyone other than officials near the cars in parc ferme conditions after the race, they should demarcate the area more clearly with crowd control barriers and maybe even a full time riot squad equipped with shields and a water Cannon. (Last bits a joke)

Clearly he was behind it from the videos, but it does amaze me how many prominent journalists tweeted this photo without doing any kind of check. Apparently it could be seen in Ted's notebook.

I see now Autosport removed the story, wonder how was it contrasted and the quality of the journalism, when all it took to confirm / deny it was browse through the comments in Reddit

Is this after the race or after qualifying?

So Hamilton has snapped Verstappens rear wing intentionally to disable his DRS for the race?

This is outrageous.

Th slightly surprising thing about the original AS article was they ran with it, yet a couple of lines in pretty much contradicted the 'story'. :D

Did they already dust the wing for prints ?

On a serious note, I was happy all the BS was gone this year sofar, hope it stays that way this year.
This should not even be a thing, just some media trying to find something because they miss the many controversial things we had last year.

Motorsport.com has asked the FIA for comment.

Thing is, they and Autosport had prepared quite a spiel, despite acknowledging the video, so can only think they got a bit over-excited at what they thought was a gotcha moment.  And the final comment regarding the FIA is like a diving player begging the ref to penalise his opponent.  The Motorsport version was authored by Adam Cooper, a fairly respected journo, but one who once went on a very odd rant whem Hamilton switched from Arai helmets to Bell some years back. Definitely appears to have an axe to grind. :)

It doesn't really matter if he touched it or not, he shouldn't be there,

I imagine RBR are furious and fully expect a race ban.

You know..... I can't believe there is not a single part of his body or clothing that did not touch the car, seeing the manner he had to squeeze through....

There's photographic evidence of him in Park Ferme around a competitors car.

Seems like a slam dunk to me.

This is a real insult to Ultra Long Lens 100,000mm grainy UFO photos taken since 1947.

Oh, come on. We can all see that he's wearing a false right arm there - the real one, under his shirt, is obviously touching the car. As has been stated, he was probably removing the gum used to disable Max's DRS
