Or, similarly, deeming Oliver Gavin unworthy of a Superlicence, yet letting the likes of Lavaggi or Delétraz have one.
You mean Adelaide '95? Listened to a couple of Gavin's interviews (which are always great), and I think he can see the reason behind the decision, as hard as it was back then for him - and his dad, who had come to witness his son's first F1 race. No seat time, unfamiliar with the team and team on their way out. Seemed like a sensible move to not let him race.

Considering that he was not even part of the lineup, was drafted in lastminute and drove in an LMP2 cobbled together from spare parts it's quite impressiveI'm not going to say that Nick isn't talent, but I think it's tricky to look at these top 20 laps without considering the changing track conditions, tire stints, tire compounds, and what not that each driver had the opportunity to drive on.
I don't know what the conclusion of that analysis would be. Maybe De Vries did his top 20 laps on double stinted michelins in the heat of the day and he's the second coming of Jesus . Maybe not. I don't know.

Not the British Journalism Awards news provider of the year winner for nothing.

Much as he is arguably the best Rally driver ever, he was not worthy of a Super License for F1.

I'm curious in general as to whether anyone else feels that there was a particularly standout driver in this race this year? To me, the obvious choices would be Antonio Felix da Costa and Will Stevens but I haven't had a chance to look at the data - it's clear some just drastically outperformed others, and there was an interesting interview with AFdC where he basically said "Will set up the car and he's great so I followed his lead and it was a dream to drive"...
Sorry if this has been brought up already, but.. Is WIll Stevens becoming the best LMP2 driver out there at the moment?
I might be a bit biased as I’m a big fan, but a shout out to Shane Van Gizbergen. Never driven at Le Mans, never driven a GTE. Didn’t put a foot wrong all week and comfortably matched the pace of his teammate Sam Bird. Solid debut to say the least.

Shane Van Gisbergen's thoughts on his first LeMans 24hrs...

He's got such a strong Australian accent, it was almost jarring when they interviewed him on Radio Le Mans. I think it's a great thing the supercar drivers get involved, feels like an untapped market for experienced drivers
