Okay it's a done deal.

The GPL league now has it's own server setup and running as often as possible on VROC. It's marked as AtlasRacing in the server list and is currently running as a open server looping 5 tracks, Spa, Le Mans Bugatti, Silverstone, Mesa Marin and Louden (2 road courses and 2 ovals.) These tracks were chosen because they happen to be the next couple of tracks that we are visiting in our GP and Oval championships, but we can run pretty much any track you like.

Posted Image

Most of the time it will run as a dedicated server but I know a lot of you guys were interested in running a few casual races of your own for those that frequent this forum. If you want me to set the server up for that then let me know, I can password the race too if you want, or leave it open for others to join. It's up to you.

Our league races run Saturday 1430 GMT and Sunday Night 0000 GMT, so the league will be using it then but you are welcome to email/ICQ me any other time and I'll try and accomadate you.

It won't be up constantly, we will take it down from time to time for maintenance and it may also get used for our new NASCAR 4 division and/or become a dedicated N4 server on Sierra.com occasionally - but the plan is to keep it running on VROC as much as possible.

Happy Racing! :p

P.S I wonder if Babbel could make this thread sticky for a few weeks?

a/ See http://gpl.gamestats.com/vroc/

b/ Nope not really. Just be aware of other people on the racetrack and get out the way if you are being lapped!

Once you are setup with VROC you can jump on our server.

Great work Matt

The AtlasF1 league is brilliant, and if we can organise some non-league all-comers Atlas races now then thats cool :)

this is cool, will be a nice 'ease into' playing with some guys from the leagues also.

can you give some info on the non-standard tracks, where to get them from (I know how to add them once I get them) etc?

Cheers guys, :)

Baddog - I'll get you some links to downloadable tracks. GPLEA are a good place to start: http://www.gplea.org/ and the US Pits: http://www.theuspits.com

I can throw another track in the loop if you have a favourite though.

It should be a good place for a few non-league races for Atlas people. Like I said I can password the session if required.

Just so you guys know - we are running it as a N4 dedicated server for the next 12 hours or so - looping around on sierra.com.

We will be back on VROC tomorrow morning (UK time)

Plenty race N4. We are about to launch an N4 division. N4 is excellent, and uses the GPL physics engine.

BTW the server is back on VROC, running all the tracks mentioned except Monza which I have replaced with Spa- by request.

As long as you don't get in anyones way then help yourself. The server is set up for open racing most of the time anyway - all sorts of people are on there - some good and some not so good.

I'm interested in trying, I suck real bad, but I've never played online before(a racing sim that is),so I'd like to try it. Is a dual-line ISDN fast enough??

I'm glad the leader wasn't in a tough battle 'cause he crashed into me on the last corner of the last lap=)

Over the next week we will be doing some exclusive beta testing of the brand new, yet to be released, Milano track, on the new server.

Milano is basically Monza with the banking. And it's pretty damn insane too!

Sorry, it's just open to league members only. :( We have to be careful because there have been problems with the tracks getting leaked before the release date.

Why am I not considered a "league member"?
I'm racing in the Atlas Racing League GP division. Just ask Jeff, Jari or Michael. :(

It IS amazing...

had 2 great races on sunday (not any good results, but great fights with other people in both races...). For me the problem has been getting good ping times and a steady connecton on my modem, but after installing ISDN nearly 2 weeks ago, my online gaming has just become soo much more fun... (much less "warping" and lagging)..

I hope this game is as good as you lot say it is as I've spent two days tracking down a copy, so I now have a three day wait for it to arrive. What is the best wheel/pedals to use with this game?

You're going to have to stop calling it a game and start referring to it as a sim.

You'll soon find out why.;)

Sorry for going little OT in my question but I need help from GPL racers that I expect checking this thread out regularly...

My question is: How can I set the view from the cockpit that allow me to see the speed/RPM and other data. I noticed that it's visible in "behind the car" view but not in regular cockpit vew ???

I am sure that when you are a pro you can judge your speed without the number on screen, but for now I need to compare myself with CC, like how much speed I am carring through the corner etc.

P.S. The pieces of my car (and of me  ) are all over the old Ring. This track is such a beast to conquer... How much time did you need to master it?

Put simply - you can't.;)

You can see your tach in front of you on the dash, and that should give you the info on when to shift gears. You don't get any more data than that in the cockpit view.

The ring will take months to conquer. I haven't managed a decent time there yet but to learn it I just go fast where I remember the track and slower where I am unfamilar or can't see the road ahead. After enough laps you start to remember more of the track and chop lots of time off.

Try using the Cooper or the Honda - less power and you'll spend more time learning the track rather than struggling to control the car.

Thanks Swerve, you just saved a lot of my time that could be wasted on looking for this option...

One more question, regarding driving. What are you supposed to do with a throttle when you downshift/upshift. Do you go off completely or only ease off a little.

I lift just enough to make sure I'm not speedshifting. No need to lift completely.

The ring is what stands between me and a desent GPL-Rank... with my rank of ap. 35, but a ring time of 8.55.xx i recon i could be around the 10mark on the GPL-Rank if i just managed a lap around the ring without spinning...

BTW, what happened to the AtlasF1 Vroc Server? is it nascar4 all the time, or is it down..?

The server is offline mostly because it kept crashing if we left it running on VROC for long periods of time. :(

We are trying to get the guy running the server for us to reinstall the OS.

too bad... after finaly getting an isdn card install, my ping times are pretty ok for most of the servers (with my old modem, they where NOT for some reason (even though 56k modems should do the trick to play GPL)). Anyway, hope you get the server sorted  :)

My best ring time is: 8 24(Ferrari), and my GPL-rank is now down to... +1.0

Gemini.. just take your time around the ring, concentrate on not crashing is the first to do...

Excuse my naivity, but does this Grand Prix Legends thingemy allow you to race each other in real time on the web? Is it like racing a PC game? Surely its much slower. Are the graphics jumpy? Can you get a feel for the car or is the network link a bit like too much turbo lag?

Bex, unlike games like Quake, GPL's handling suffers no lag at all on the web... I use a 56k connection to race. And the graphics are rarely jumpy; gamewise its pretty much like racing the AI on your home computer except a lot more fun :)

just got a new PB@Rouen, 1.58.37. Worked pretty hard for that one, as i don't really like that track. Don't know why, but perhaps it's becuase i've raced there too little..

oh well.. better fire up GPL agian... workin' on my GPLRank :)

I've stopped working on my rank for a while whilst I get consistently fast again... every now and again I set some new PB's but can't do those times in races :) I've also been driving some different cars like the BRM which are surprisingly fun, even if you do feel more like a tank commander than a driver ;)

a joystick or a wheel is a must... keyborad is just to akward (at least for me, don't think i'll manage half a lap on the keyboard...)
