I just got a DSL hookup to the internet, I had been on cable. I can't connect to the VROC server. Does anyone have a good link or some advice? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

I've never been able to get VROC working. Probably some firewall problems or something (we have an internal network). I haven't applied any patches to GPL. Do I need to?

Basically, I start up VROC, it connects to the chat room, but the bottom location bar always says "Logging into VROC.. Please wait", and I can't get past there.. It never logs on, so I never get the racelists, so I can't race! D'oh!

keyboard better then joystick or wheel.... here's the math...lol:

Keyboard + slow mo 8 meg onboard video card = 642.61 GPLRank

i'll be dangerous when i get a decent video card and controller/wheel

I have finally found some time last weekend to try GPL with my first FF wheel (actually it was my first real try on patched GPL ever). The sim is so dam hard... have to say I admire you guys for the laptimes that you do. I played for couple of hours, I did not touch the setups yet etc., but it feels really rewarding when start get it together

Just for statistics: my best laptimes of first tested track - Watkins Glen (default setup) stopped on high 1,08.x :blush:

Then I thought to myself, come on Gemini, it's not so bad, after only three, four hours of play...you are born to race...

... and then I moved to N-Ring.... :blush: :cool: :blush:

it's going to be a long year, now I feel it, I am "infected"...

P.S. Anyone has experience with FF values for Logitech Momo. I tried several settings from links suggested here, then I experimented with them a little, but I am still not sure where to go. The wheel feels great with grass, when spnning and hitting something. What is annoying is that I have a lot of sudden, short FF outburts, when I am in a straight line.

Brilliant. :clap: :clap: :clap:

Finally got VROC running and completed ... well ... started my first online race. No longer a VROC virgin. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. :up: :up: :up:

Strangely on lap 2 there was an enormous explosion at the back of my car. Never seen that before and I suspect those Al Qaeada bastards have infiltrated VROC and blown up my car. You'll pay for this in Hell Bin Laden. :mad: :mad:

Make sure your Vroc.ini file has the following (and only) lines:

[VROC]
Address=64.81.67.113

That might be your problem.

If you are behind a firewall you might have to open some ports on it for the Vroc to get the racelist... since i'm not behind a firewall, i'm not too sure about this though. Anyone?

:)

Chrissy Boy - have you manually set the GPL.exe path? It LOOKS like it defaults to the correct directory when you install VROC, but set it manually anyway. That's one bug that can result in a missing server list.

When is the Atlas server online? I'm racing nearly every day at VROC at the VR servers.

Chrissy Boy - you may have filename extensions turned off in windows, so maybe your vroc.ini is named vroc.ini.txt or similar, but you can't see it. That's 1 thing to look for.. an easier way to check that your vroc.ini is set up correctly is to run the following link (don't download it, run it from it's current location - it is safe, don't worry!)

vroc.ini automatic config by remco

To see if it has worked you will have to restart the winvroc application.

If this still doesn't work there is another thing you can try. You need to edit the core.ini thats inside the GPL folder (again it's best to make sure extensions are shown in windows so you can see the .ini part). If you haven't used the core.ini before it will be named core.ini.sample and you need to edit the filename to make it just core.ini. Then inside the core.ini look for the line that reads

alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 0

and change it to

alternate_ip_addr_lookup = 1

Save the core.ini and restart winvroc once more. If this don't work make sure you change it back again!

You need to find out if you are running behind a firewall. If so there are settings in the GPL 1.1 readme file that can help.

Hope this helps.

It's not anymore. There were problems with it constantly crashing and being offline when we left it looping on VROC and so it is only used for league racing now. :(

I finally get GPL & WinVROC installed and working and theres now no longer an atlas server. typical :) Can I suggest that atlas GPL'ers hang around on the atlas server in #GPL?

If you by that mean that we Atlas GPLers join #gpl on the Atlasf1 irc server, i'm all for that :)

However, maybe installing gpl & vroc wasn't such a good idea, seeing as I should be starting revision soon :(

Well me & mahelgel almost has irc.atlasf1.com #GPL's first race unfortunately my PC kept crashing and mahelgel's connection was too slow to host it.

Don't think my connection was too slow, it might have been the isdn router (that have some primitive firewall options) that was blocking the GPL server :blush: Didn't think of it then, as i can join races on vroc without problems.... I'll have to look into that....

Also, i had to quit quite abruptly as i got visit from a mate that has been on a 6 week backpacker tour of Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia (and he didn't visit the Malaysian GP... Doh!) so i couldnt continue our quest to have a Atlasf1 GP :)

The setup of the irc server has been changed by Bira and so you can't create #GPl anymore. So we'll just have to use #atlasf1 like everybody else :)

Why not just do it on the VROC irc? :confused: You can create as many chatrooms on there as you like.

I finally got WinVROC to work (most of the time) so I'm game for an Atlas GPL race. :up:

Did my first real race yesterday and it resembled a mix between demolition derby and carmagedon but it was heaps of fun. :p

I would like to encourage anyone who has not tried VROC to get online and race. You are missing a lot of fun. It is actually easier to drive against real drivers as compared to the AI. You don't need a fast connection. Actually limiting your connection to 26k or so is what is needed.

It's a great community out there. Jump in.

So... perhaps we should try to set a date for an "Atlasf1 GPL race for fun" evening? sort out who's able to host, what time and date, spec races?, tracks, etc.... As i'm only on a ISDN line (64kbit/sec) i'm not able to handle more than a 2-3 players, so if anyone has xDSL/cable they should be able to host.

As soon as i'm able to get cable/xDSL (not yet available where i live :( ), i have a 952mhz P3 with 512mb ram that just can't wait to become a GPLserver ;)

We did have a race evening some time ago, with me spinning every lap at monaco if i remeber correctly :) Lots of fun though. If i remeber correctly, even Linus27 got beaten for pole at Monaco, so he's probably got some redeeming to do ;)

so... who's up for a race?
