Sad news they made some nice cars over 40 odd years  in Dudley  . I hope someone will pick them up   -  50 redundancies

What sad news.  I remember helping Chris Smith - 'The Mystery Lotus buyer' (and a very capable racing driver) - when he founded Westfield with his Lotus 11 lookalike, way back when. 'Road & Track' in the US bought one of his kit 11s as a staff project on the strength of what I had written about the car.

Indeed - even us Caterham owners (well, most of us, I'm sure) are much saddened to have heard this.

They seemed to have been developing a more diversified business model too; I don't know if perhaps they'd overstretched themselves in pursuit of wider opportunities, or if it's just a sign of the times...

Seeing this pair at Lydden only last Saturday I was thinking how well cared-for most examples are.

Let's hope the business can be restructured and carried on.

It's a great shame . Although I ended up driving Caterhams for twenty years I very nearly bought a Westfield instead, and it was only the direct link to ACBC that made me opt for a Seven . There's a popular myth, recently repeated by Autocar's Steve Cropley , that Caterham owners are an elitist bunch who sneer at Westfields, but  the inconvenient truth is that I have never met anybody in the Seven community who did so. Westfield was just another answer to the same question - as was Gordon Murray's  IGM Ford (as on display  at Goodwood MM this spring )
