Going by this forecast there a chance of rain (normally I say too early but this time the forecast is just two days before the race weekend start, hopefully not the one that f1 just mention type of rain)

Heading up to Montreal tomorrow for my first race since pre-pandemic! Very excited.
For anyone else going, they've apparently banned all off-site purchased alcohol this year, which is clearly an attempt to make everyone buy their (expensive) stuff. That's a big change because people have traditionally brought in huge coolers full of whatever beer etc. that they wanted, and the concession lines are already a nightmare in some areas around the track. $9 for a Heineken? No thank you. I'll see how carefully they're inspecting bags on Friday and decide whether I can repurpose some metal water bottles with good Vermont beers on Saturday and Sunday.

Would be more interesting if they raised ride height on safety grounds - otherwise Red Bull bore-fest in the race after Ferraris check out?

There'll be riots if they start doing that elsewhere, Silverstone or Spa for example. The food/bar outlets are congested enough even with people taking their own drinks in.
I'm surprised organisers haven't started doing it though, they'd make (even more of) a fortune.

This is the weather service that most of us here rely on:
Montréal, Québec - Vos Prévisions locales - MétéoMédia (meteomedia.com)
Rain on Friday, none on Sunday. Speaking from experience, it's possible to have rain in parts of the city and none on the track. The reverse is also possible: I was drenched at the track and it was bone dry in Brossard (South Shore).
Some drivers have already arrived (Ocon). The cars were flown directly from Baku:

This track profile is great and the atmosphere & scenery is fantastic. It's a very much needed location and market place on calendar. However, I don't think the races here have been particularly interesting for many years now. Also unlike Melbourne which is still amazingly green and pure, Montreal has been filled with disgusting asphalt runoff all around it. It met the same fate as Mosport.
Latifi in FP3 and Stroll in Q1
In the race they're too busy saving tires and battling porpoising to have time for crashing
Maybe this is more for the unpopular opinions thread but I agree with you, the race hasn't been great for a number of years (even remembering that it hasn't taken place for 2 years!). I've been attending since 1999 with the Wall of Champions heartbreak as a young MSC fan, and really I don't think a single race in the Hybrid era other than the first in 2014 has been particularly good. 2011 was obviously the best I've seen since I started attending. The city and track atmosphere are exceptional, though.

2014 was a really good race. The 2019 race was pretty memorable but fell apart embarrassingly when Hamilton and Vettel got fighting at the end. In a way I'm not sure F1, or rather its race operations, has recovered from that.

Nobody. It's not like it used to be - the lack of grass on the chicane means that drivers aren't caught out by that anymore, and the wall has been moved back a touch since its heydey. So my money is on nobody.
The cool temps this weekend, plus the bumpy surface, probably means Merc aren't going to have a fun time.

There are many translating websites that can help you
Gasly thinks the kerbs will be a problem because the cars need to be run more stiffly than in the past. The drivers need to go over the kerbs for a quick time. The other thing is that it is a low downforce track because of the main straight and there are a few very quick corners.
So, all in all, a low-downforce, stiffly-sprung car, on a track where the drivers *need* to run the kerbs for a quick time...

While our house rules don’t specifically cover this situation, this is an English speaking forum and it’s not good netiquette to post a foreign language link without providing some sort of translation.
What normally happens is that I have a go and spectacularly bungle the translation and then usually FLB or Muppetmad or someone steps in to correct me.

Spring is an interesting time of year, in many parts of Canada. Montreal in June, can have sunshine and temps in the 30s (Celsius that is), or torrential rain and temps near freezing. Sometimes both can occur in the same weekend. It is best that F1, and F1 fans prepare for anything.
