Last Monday evening, post-Goodwood, somewhere in Hampshire, around dusk...

Real 250GTO completing this memorable line-up of genuine-engined, otherwise replica 'Sharknoses' and Dino 246SP - so reminiscent of the Maranello factory yard press conference, 1962.  The scene was so evocative I thought it worth sharing.

Is that the GTO before it got a spoiler at the end of the line?

Certainly is...  I suggested taking a hacksaw to the one I photographed on Monday.  But the owner...demurred.

The Maranello picture is famous and shows all "Macchina" as made there. Its good to see these beautiful pictures of machines while some made ... in the UK.

Wow. Just... wow.

My sentiments exactly. Presumably the two sharknoses were the cars driven at Thruxton last autumn by Damon Hill and Martin Brundle ?

The 246SP replica in Doug's photos is in 1961 form with high windscreen required by the regulations and high, flat tail. /they exploited a loophole in the regulations at the "Ring by cutting a large slot in the screen. The Sporting Motorist cover shows how both were lower in 1962.

How Douglas Armstrong reported it to the Aussies in Modern Motor. The final issue of this publication (as 'Motor') in newsagents now.
