It’s a tragi-comedy.

How is it so I come to this thread every couple of weeks and it's always the same poster making a third of the total posts, arguing with everyone else- how are they not fed up yet with repeating the same points over and over again?

:rotfl:

I stopped reading them in full, they're all the same. I might give the full text a quick skim if I'm in need of a hearty chuckle.

This thread has gone from farce to tragedy.

Perhaps, but we’ve got to give credit to the mods for allowing it to flow and not jumping in and closing it down. In the end this’ll be one of those threads that folk will refer back to in the future either to confirm opinions or otherwise.

As for me, my view remains unchanged not because I’m a stubborn old fool, although some might beg to differ, but because I haven’t read anything that has convinced me, likewise I imagine for others that have read my view.

2023 will be fun either way and I’ll be watching OP’s performances closely ready to resurrect this thread if/when he stuffs it up, or calmly look away if he proves to be the best thing since sliced bread.

So you've already decided in case Piastri comes good and consequently races sucessfully in F1 for the next decade or longer, you'll close your eyes before it the whole time because you can't bear that he proved you wrong?

No, it’s because in the end this is  all about performance on the track. Whether one thinks he’s a scoundrel or not, performance trounces circular debate. I’m sure over the many years you too have come to accept LH’s greatness as a driver, even though you probably still think he’s a scoundrel.

You're off with that. Quite substantially. Completely unrelated to Piastri and Alpine anyway.

As long as the rules are being followed there’s no problem there.

There’s no rules against being wrong. If you want to continue being wrong you may do so, and as long as people don’t run out of patience explaining to you why you’re wrong, we don’t have a moderation problem.

If Oscar stops his car in his first GP to rescue some kittens, will Fed Up change his mind?

“How dare Oscar betray McLaren’s trust in him by voluntarily giving up a race finish in order to save some kittens. He didn’t even have a contract with the kittens. Just shows how little integrity Oscar has. Another employer being publicly disrespected by Oscar. Just shows an ongoing pattern of him having no loyalty. He’d better give those kittens a good life or he’ll be forever tainted by his decision.”

Overall it is kind of hard to understand what is the big deal in this one. No matter if we're talking about professional drivers or professional software developers, these things happens everywhere, every day. If we hire a young developer it usually takes couple of years before we reach a point where they are skilled enough to do a good job in a project or are qualified enough to works as subcontractor. They are well paid. Unfortunately some of them leave just at the point where they start to bring money into the company. Of course it stings after kickstarting their professional career but it is what it is.

Regarding the one particular poster in this thread, I think he is just saying what he is asked to say. The good thing is that they realized that blaming this on one incompetent woman who doesn't know how to make a valid contract is not a good narrative these days. Though I'm not sure if framing a young driver as a parasite is any better...

Not one of those is true.

  • Alonso left for a longer contract that Alpine weren't willing to commit to, nothing to do with Piastri.
  • Ricciardo is out because he's had 18 months of underperformance. Piastri did not "directly cause" that. If not Piastri another driver would be filled the seat (most likely, Gasly).
  • Otmar and Rossi have shown themselves to be fools and are continuing to do so with each interview they give.
  • If Rossi loses his job then it will be due to the series of failures under his watch, not Piastri.
  • Zak isn't in any danger of losing his job at all, let alone due to anything to do with Piastri.
  • If Alpine's academy closes then the blame lies with Alpine.

Your vendetta against Piastri has moved considerably beyond arguing in good faith. You're doing no more than trying to trash his reputation now with such baseless nonsense. Once again, for somebody shouting "integrity" you show very little of it.

Yes, I can't see why Brown should lose his job over this.  He's replaced a driver who cannot seem to adapt to anything other than a Red Bull with a huge talent.

No, why don’t you read the article:

The flip side to this is that OP was originally signed as reserve driver at Mac for 23, race seat for 24 and 25. But the CRB hearing forced their hand and cost them $10m to lay Ric off and promote OP to full seat, otherwise Alpine would have won the hearing as they’d a race seat for 23, which tops a reserve seat.

Simples.

No, McLaren were always going to drop Ricciardo.

Given that we know Capito denied having a contract to place Piastri in a Williams race seat for 2023 in an artile dated mid-June, how can we square this with Rossi's claim that, in May, they were about to confirm with Williams that Piastri would be racing for them in '23?  Either Rossi or Capito must either by lying or incorrect.

Or a verbal agreement, which Alpine seems to think counts as a contract

Sorry, in this thread, only Alpine tell the truth, and everyone else is a spin merchant

No pressure. It’s not like Zak to deflect the responsibility onto Seidl, who managed to snare OP thanks to his mate, Webber.

It's so important to read to the end of a sentence.

"His resume speaks for itself to date and it was Andreas that put forward the recommendation which I fully supported."

I expect the deal agreed doesn't allow Piastri to drive for Mclaren on a race weekend this season ie. Brazil and Abu Dhabi.

Think I have seen in an article that he will only be released after the final race in Abu Dhabi so putting him in a McLaren on a race weekend isn't happening.

Waiting for her Twitter announcement that she has a contract with them that they must honour.

Good decision. But tbh I thought Rossi's head should roll. Not just because of the legal debacle, but because of how poorly the whole thing was handled post that point.
