I vaguely recall this being an item up for auction a few years ago. I wonder if anyone has information on its origins?
I believe it is now in the Barber Museum.
Thanks

Didn't Jo Bonnier mount a Lola on his wall as he considered it a work of art...

Jack Brabham also hung the same McLaren on a wall.

Interesting to note how much a car ascending a wall raises the spirits - compared to a car falling from on high...bleeeaaaggghhhh.

I know that in the bizarre world of collecting, an unmade plastic kit is worth more than a made one, but I'd have that off the wall and glued together in no time.

If Piquet has done it I won't be !!

Oh yes - Piquet, of course.
That would explain the car plunging back to earth.

Didn't Brian Henton hang his March 761 on a wall somewhere? (The one he used as a private entrant in F1 in 1977).

James May had a 1:1 Airfix Spitfire moulded, then glued together. It's on display somewhere.
A friend of mine has a Jordan / Honda F1 car in his living room - sans engine. Yes, he's single.

It was a McLaren with the BRM V12, not a Lola (though Bonnier was a Lola agent).

What’s so funny about a car on a wall ?
Posted 09 August 2022 - 19:42
Regarding the MGA, why is the engine in completely the wrong position, off-set way too far to the left ?
Posted 09 August 2022 - 21:57
Probably the same reason there is no gearbox. Or, its art, don't question it.
TG, as an Austin Healy man, who spent his youth telling his MG driving mates what bad choices they had made ('its a pile of junk'), putting a derelict MG on the wall as art seemed to demonstrate I had got it right all those years ago ...

Ah ! It's art ! I arn't got no question with that !
Mind you, an engine and a gearbox in the right place could have helped hold it together !!

Its definitely a fashionable thing to do.. hanging a car on your wall. Like your best friends Ferrari in your own penthouse.

In its time; Race Rock in Orlando was well-known for their car-as-art theme, including another Newman-Haas Michael Andretti Lola IndyCar. This time, rotating upside down above the circular bar. The restaurant/bar has since closed and the structure torn down.

The F1 Ferrari looks out of place positioned like that. Much better hanging vertical pointing up or down. Looks like an afterthought.

If I didnt have a penthouse big enough to house a Ferrari hanging on my wall, I would make it fit. Even if it is aesthetically horrible to behold.

I love this! Most of the above are just "a car mounted on a wall" but this is art. I could look at it all day.

An F3000 Ralt on the wall at Cambrian Tyres in Aberystwyth, I believe it is a real one if not it is a lot more convincing than a Ferrari they have hanging from the ceiling, last time I looked which was a good few years ago, it was still there.

In the early seventies, the Kitchener K3 monocoque was suspended inside a railway arch at Stamford Brook in West London. It wasn't art, they just didn't have anywhere else to put it.

A racing car hanging from the ceiling of a pub? Hold my beer!
Here's (most of) a MiG-15 in the Bakfickan pub in Malmö, Sweden.

How om earth did they get in there? Guess they took the wings off and reassembled.

From the look of it, I think it flew in.

The same way Spitfires, Hurricanes, Messerschmitts et all ended up in the Irish Air Force in WW2...

More to the point: How did a MIG 15 end up in neutral Sweden?
Lots of Soviet-built aircraft were decommissioned and surplussed after the Cold War and the abolition of the Warsaw Pact.
The MiG-15 is the least of them: There were actually MiG-21s and MiG-29s sold to western collectors and governments!

Judging by the relationship of the wing and fuselage, it came in by truck

Mid-seventies I visited a tire specialist. They had a full size Lotus 72 (poster) photo hanging to the wall, with real wheels and tires mounted to it. Anyone seen that as well?

I recall several Group C cars hanged on a wall in Sinsheim museum when I visited... must be more than 15 years ago.
